After a weekend spent starting another war in the Middle East, the United States Secretary of Defense — gosh, sorry, I mean the United States SECRETARY OF WAR — made an appearance in front of the nation on Monday morning.
And if anyone was hoping for reassurance from Pete Hegseth at this juncture, they weren’t about to get it, because apparently his entire speech had been written by a teenage boy in between lengthy stints of launching raids on Counter Strike.
Oil is headed for $100+ for sure now.
Iraq’s oil production has collapsed.
Gas prices are going to rocket up in the US.
Trump manages to screw up his actual wins yet again
We really need to purge Israeli lobbying from our politics.
Its the main source of these problems.
The UK has similar people as the pro-AIPAC sycophants that you have in the US. They operate under the banner of Labour friends of Israel and they lie in similar ways.
Well, we should at least stop giving them aid. They’re already a wealthy country and can easily defend themselves.
Sure. But I suspect they dont want to give up their control of US Politics. So this is likely to get very ugly. You are beginning to see this with some in the MAGA crowd who are beginning to forcefully speak out against Israel and its behavior.

I’ve seen various reports on foreign countries, and how much they spend in lobbying the US. Israel is not at the top - there are multiple Arab/Islamic countries that spend far more.
If US citizens are spending their own money to lobby for Israel, there’s nothing wrong with that, and you can’t regulate that.
Sounds like Trump now wants to go to war against Spain and possibly the UK…
I knew one very rabid evangelical christian trumper, and he is very very pro israel because, I assume, insert nonsensical religion reason here. And if that’s the case for them, there’s likely a lot of the MAGA crowd who aren’t going to change their opinion on Israel.
Tucker Carlson was very pro-Israel while at Fox.
And now he did a 180.
Its definitely happening. The lies have just got so glaring (specially around the latest unprovoked attack) that the situation generates a does not compute in the normal MAGA brain.
Trump/Hegseth and the rest of the clowns aren’t helping matters either, because just about anybody can see that they are completely winging it. And the vast majority in the US does not want a repeat of Iraq, which is why they are actively losing support.
Rubio today saying the media misconstrued the reasons he gave yesterday for the timing of the attacks even though the media just repeated his comments verbatim. Not to worry about his flip-flop as a different reason could be given tomorrow.
Seems Carney expresses regret over his initial statement.
I always thought it was way too strong.
## Israel-US strikes on Iran appear ‘inconsistent with international law’, says Canadian PM
Canada’s prime minister Mark Carney said the US-Israeli strikes on Iran “would appear, prima facie… to be inconsistent with international law”.
That is despite initially supporting the strikes on Saturday, which he now says he did so “with regret”.
Speaking to reporters in Sydney, where he is on an official visit, he said: “We were not informed in advance, we were not asked to participate.
“Prima facie, it appears that these actions are inconsistent with international law.”
It really is time for the EU to take a stand.
The US is not our friend with Trump around. Neither is Israel.
The EU has let US/Israel get away with a genocide in Gaza, and the latest behavior by US/Israel with Iran came about because EU countries did not take a stand in the Gaza conflict. This enabled worse behavior later on.
You cannot deal with people like Trump and Bibi with appeasement. That does not work.
And we haven’t even seen what they’re going to do with it now. My guess, they’re going to do some variation of what Trump was suggesting last year, start building out resorts and stuff. Welcome to new Israel.
Contrarian view on the war.
He is definitely backtracking a bit. There was pushback here from his supporters (such as myself) on his strong support for the bombings.
Trump can’t articulate a goal. Which means he will either need to randomly stop bombing Iran without regime change, or send in troops to establish actual regime change. Those are both political nightmares for Trump.
The chance at victory has already passed. That happened by the time we learned about any of this on the news. Regime change didn’t happen overnight like it did in Venezuela (if you can call it that). Nothing has been achieved as a result.
What Trump does next is going to be frightening. He will get desperate. 50/50 at this point he starts dropping nukes to try and make it stop?
