How do I pay a friend for professional services?

Can you buy her lunch or dinner?

How long and/or in depth was her work for you? If it was like an hour or so, just chalk it up as a friend doing another fried a solid. If it was like half a day’s work or something, gently insist you do something for her.

And like someone said, make sure you give her referrals. Put on social media what great, free work she does! (Well, maybe skip the ‘free’ part, lol)

Wine & Dine is usually a good option.

Why did you copy my costume?

Yap!

What kinds of math questions does she ask? My BIL is always a big help with our cars because he’s a mechanic and I never feel I can repay the favor (he has yet to take me up on building him a killer budgeting spreadsheet).

New idea: figure out the value of the legal advice you got, donate that to GoA members as an early Christmas present and to show your appreciation for the help GoA members give you when you ask questions.

Win (you got legal advice) - win (you don’t have to worry about repaying the friend) - … win (you unload that money on others instead of having to go on guilt-ridden about keeping that money to yourself).

Agreed, we’re far more willing to accept payment than your friend

Help with her kid’s high school math homework, these days, mostly

She’s currently in a different state from me, but maybe when I’m next visiting.

It was probably an hour or so but I don’t know for sure.

Only if advice giving is classified as a professional service in the next NAICS update

Ah perhaps I can return the favors to my BIL in future then. His oldest is currently in 2nd grade but one day!

I would pay her in chicken wings
