My son and his gf have decided to ‘elope’. Immediate family only, early October, in Ottawa. I’m not allowed to tell ANYBODY.

There’s two motivations. One is, grandmothers on both sides are reaching their expiration date and the planned date of 2 years from now leaves some uncertainty. Secondly, we gift them a chunk of money which they already asked for and I told them ‘in two years, when you get married’. Looks like I’m writing a cheque now lol.

yes. my daughter eloped. they took the money we gave them and used it as a down payment on a home. they were going to have a party afterwards, their.marriage was like 2 weeks before the COVID shutdown so…the party never happened.
my son is planning on paying a local farmer for the use of a field for a party in 2028. BBQ and beer, so even that shouldn’t be too expensive. they’ll likely get away with some thousands of dollars for the cost.
a colleague in another office apparently is expecting a child any day now. I just found out (she felt bad that I just found out - i told her never to worry about timing outside of immediate family). she seems great and her other kids (who have appeared on teams calls in the background) seem wonderful. so good for her and her family

We made a day trip to visit a cousin and meet her granddaughters for the first time (1 1/2 year old and a 5 month old)!!! 
I feel guilty but happy that the big storm (with tornadoes in my town and the next one over) only shut off our power for a short while. Everyone across the street has been out going into day 3.

Attended the annual Verna Kirkness Foundation (VKF) “graduation” dinner last night for the 30 Grade 11 students in their University of British Columbia program. (VKF put Indigenous students in university residences for a week and they attend science labs.) The kids are fun to talk with and the experience is life-changing for many of them, especially those from small centres in remote areas.
I get to go as the Actuarial Foundation of Canada helps fund the program. I love programs like theirs as you see the impact on individual lives. The traditional salmon feast at their graduation dinner is also appealing to me.

I am on track for late 80s longevity. Possibly early 90s.
What would take me like a day of number crunching I can do in about 10mins now.
