Happy Holidays 2025

It’s snowmaggedon here today. My snowthrower died a gnarly death so I had to shovel.
Then my son’s gf had a complete meltdown. They live on a farm, so somewhat remote. She doesn’t have any family nearby and my son is in Alaska right now. The tractor came by and basically plowed the cars in behind a snowbank. She was trying to shovel the two cars out, and got overwhelmed, had a meltdown. So I went over, sent her inside and cleared the parking lot. With my shovel becuase did I mention no snowblower today.
Then I went in and told her she’s not allowed to have anxiety or become overwhelmed anymore because it’s always just a call to me.
Anyway, lots of snow here now, super white everywhere, looking like christmas, just in time for our ‘company’ christmas party tomorrow! Prime rim, fish and chips, greek salad, good friends, and lots of wine.

Mostly done shopping, we dialed back the ornaments and decor this year but here is the tree.

My wife was kind enough to make sure we put out two things: a ceramic Santa my grandparents had, and a wooden reindeer that my grandfather made. Behind the tree is the Zenith radio my grandparents bought in the early 50s.

Happy holidays GoA, you all are the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse!!!

Gonna rain starting on the 23rd here. 4 inches as of now, over 4 days, as of now. Chance is 50% for those four days, so, again, maybe, maybe not. Depends on where the atmospheric river finally settles.

They’re ice fishing around here. A bit early for my tastes, there’s still open water in some places but the more reckless folks are out.

It’s just above freezing today so it’s going to melt the ice a bit. Then the next week+ is well below freezing overnight and just below freezing during the day. I’m not sure what that’ll do for ice forming, if it’ll just put it in a holding pattern or maybe increase the depth of the ice reasonably.

If it’ continues to increase, I’ll hopefully get a crew of students out for the first ice fishing trip over the holidays.

Speaking of which, I posted this on discord:

HAHA! Good meme, what a joke.

Except what I got as a response was about 10 students clamouring to go ice fishing on the first trip.

So anyway, if anyone needs any organs, I do have access.

I survived! I’m off tomorrow, and pretty much everyone else is off the rest of the year starting Monday, so we are now in coast mode.

I’m going to roll into work tomorrow for a little bit, but not going to gaf’s. After that we’re off to Vail for a week. Hope they get some snow.

Sounds great. Wish I could ski again. Haven’t been in at least 20 years. Didn’t want to triple my hobby by adding the kids to it, and at the time I couldn’t even afford to ski. So, for family’s sake, I dropped it. Found other, cheaper, hobbies instead. Got my bike back to working order, so might put on some miles before the rain starts Tuesday.

And no eating the whole time! Must be tough. Hope it goes through ok in the end.

Hope so too. The nonfood thing…we had been told to reschedule so we started dreaming of the breakfast place we were heading to but then they found an OR for her to have at noon.

Fits and starts.

Hard-Raining here. Picked up nephew and wife this morning. Saw three downed trees (two on the highway) and one flipped car.

After Thanksgiving, we got over 12 inches of snow and it was very cold for almost 3 weeks after that. So we thought, yay, this snow won’t melt and we’ll have a white Christmas. Late last week, it started warming up, above freezing, and now most of the snow has melted. No snow in the forecast so no white Christmas tomorrow. Thanks Mother Nature!

That old song from the '70s is true then…

“It never rains in Southern California…it pours, oh, man, it pours…”
