Sinker logs are a thing - logs that were felled a century or more ago and have been at the bottom of a river, or in a bog, or what have you. They are old growth trees - some started growing before Columbus came across the ocean, felled in the 1800s or 1900s and which sunk for a variety of reasons.

Because they are old growth, they have a desirable grain and sell for obscene prices to people who want to make furniture or musical instruments or whatever. So yeah, wood can survive a long time when submerged.

> Plants have already come up with a way to store energy - photosynthesis. They capture carbon and have been doing so for time immemorial. Trees are not the most efficient - I believe there are some grasses that are faster (including seagrass). Whether it can be done at the right scale, along with other solutions, will be difficult.

Plants tried the whole “bury the carbon” thing several million years ago. Turns out, we just dig it back up…

It would be beautifully American if Biden signed an EO on Carbon Capture, and then Trump/Desantis immediately burned all the captured carbon.

They’ve been doing it for 300 million years and they’re still doing it. However, it’s only under special conditions that they go onto form fossil fuels. Most of them will have biodegraded and the carbon dioxide is released in the atmosphere and reused.

Coal, before it becomes compressed over time, starts off as peat bogs. Peat bogs are an excellent way to store carbon, so there has been a big push to stop peat farming.

Well, we better do something fast because bodies of water will end up heating up too much, leading to mass animal deaths.

In Brazil: 125 Pink Amazon River Dolphins. Mass death.

River heated up to 102F (39.1C)

Rio de Janeiro (and Brazil) is experiencing a massive heat wave with temperatures over 43C (109F)

The result of these heat waves is more people dying (young and old) due to these conditions.

This happened last night at the Taylor Swift Concert in Rio. 23 year old died from cardiac complications due to the heat.

I do hope they sue the pants of the promoters who were limiting water bottles going into the venue (in order to only be able to buy them inside).

Just to add to this: 2.9C increase is the most probable now so make your life choices accordingly now.

That means you US folks will have massive heat domes in the future, as well as massive cold fronts.

50C (122F) for 2 weeks and -50C (-58F) for 2 weeks

That doesn’t sound pleasant (or survivable for some).

Hotter than my state’s hottest ever. I’ve had colder in my hometown in my lifetime, but I’ll admit anything under -10F is notable.

Maybe Minnesota will have both of these extremes, some years.
I certainly won’t get the latter, and where I am (cool coastal breeze) it hardly gets above 100. So, maybe it will hit 100 more often. Now, when that seawater rises above 70 or so, yeah, we might feel more of it.

Its not that one area will have both extremes.

Its that west coast/south west will have over 50C (with lots of wildfires) while east coast/north east will have under-50C.

This means that you will have a larger number of excess deaths, and a larger hit to economic growth.
