Gas or electric stove? What is the flex?

Sometimes I use the flame to burn the hair off the skin of pork. But I also have a torch for that.

Yeah, most of the apartments I’ve seen have electric cooktops, and I assume that’s because landlords think tenants will fear for the safety of their small children with gas burners.

If you don’t own your place, or if your building isn’t connected to natural gas, then there really isn’t much choice between gas and electric.

If the power goes out, I doubt I’ll be doing much cooking in the oven.

P&C folks: do apartment complexes with gas carry a higher premium than with all electric?

I think our gas oven has an electric starter, I’d be hesitant to start it with a match in a black out, and I certainly wouldn’t be starting the oven

Old gas oven made the kitchen very hot. It’s a small kitchen, and the thermostat is in the adjoining dining room, so it threw off the comfort of the whole house.

New gas oven is maybe two years old now. Haven’t noticed the same issue. But also have not been baking nearly as often during the pandemic, because I mostly baked treats to bring into the office before.

We have one of these and it lights our gas stove easily and safely.

Our thermostat is in the kitchen, about six feet from the range. It was a terrible decision. There is an old and now-defunct (ca 1940) thermostat in the living room, I don’t know why they didn’t just stay with that location. Maybe when we re-do the HVAC I’ll see about changing it.

I do s’mores in the broiler. Graham cracker, chocolate, marshmallow then broil until the marshmallow is perfectly toasted, take out of the broiler and top with another Graham cracker.

The chocolate melts and they’re kind of better than campfire s’mores. Except you don’t have the same sense of satisfaction you do after toasting the perfect marshmallow on a campfire.

Never tried it with an electric broiler… only in my current gas range. But I bet electric would work fine too.

Instead of GoA Pioneer under your name it should say “Do you want fries with that?”
