I like (YYYYx10000)+(MMx100)+DD
What kind of barbarism is this!?
see, this guy gets it!!!
I think he means that today’s date would be 20220110. I like to throw in decimals to make it easier to read - 2022.01.10, but same concept. I use it for file names - makes file sorting much easier!
File names should absolutely be some variant of YYYYMMDD for sorting.
I’m indifferent to inserting dots or dashes so long as it’s consistent so they sort properly.
Oh that’s fine, what I was accusing of as barbarism was having your dates be like 7/8/21, etc. because that makes things more painful if you boldly decide to start snipping text strings
This is correct - I keep forgetting if you place a " * " in places here it formats stuff weird
Makes sense. Yeah, I like the leading zeroes just to keep things all the same length.
Only actuaries could mistake date formatting for something funny.
Yeah, I just came across that in another thread. If you have two asterisks in close enough proximity, it assumes you’re trying to italicize the stuff in between.
I don’t know if there’s a workaround. Like the equivalent of putting a ‘ in Excel or something.
I just filled out a new patient info sheet for a dentist: it asked for DoB to be YYYYMMDD!!! ![]()
ETA: They had a dropdown box, so it was alreay pre-formatted!!!

I regret bringing a date format discussion into this thread…
@Mathman made it all worth it.
