The housing crisis is really getting out of control…

I had to set the time in my car last weekend. The same screen lets you push an arrow to add (or subtract in Oct) an hour, plus a toggle for DST that effectively does the same thing. I was thinking the DST toggle might be for those that don’t know in which direction to change the hour, but then these people likely wouldn’t know whether they should be turning DST on or off, I’d think.

On my car if DST is selected it will adjust for DST for you. So get it set properly and select DST and you’ll never have to adjust your car’s clock for DST again. Well… unless they change when DST happens.

I worked in an office with a clock that adjusted for DST automatically… except that it was from before they changed it. So the clock was wrong for two weeks every Spring and another two weeks every Fall. :woman_shrugging:

Because DST is handled differently in different countries, programmers who have to deal with it and all of the exceptions are not fans. There is a reason why people stick to UTC.

One nice thing about different countries handling DST differently is that for a couple of weeks in March, my 7am team meetings occur at 8am instead. (I’d rather not talk about November, however.)

Sure. But I live in the U.S. and my car knows it. So by selecting “DST” on my car it’s one less clock I have to change, so that’s what I do.

I posted this on Facebook, can’t remember if I shared it here.

As an INFJ, this obviously offends me deeply.

I bet the add/subtract works well when you drive into a new time zone.

Same. As others speculated, I imagine they kept the DST programming simple on a car model that’s sold in many regions of the world.
