The princess and the pea story was actually inspired by my husband, who can’t sleep if there is a crumb even just on my side.

We switched sides of the bed when the baby slept in our room. We never switched back.
A couple of times when we moved we switched sides. Initially, though I didn’t realize this until later, it was so I was on the side of the bed nearest the bedroom door. We’ve been in our current house/bedroom with the bed in the same place for over 20 years and have not switched and she is nearest the door. Either she thinks we live in a safer place or got over her fears.
I’ve heard women normally sleep closer to the door, which used to be the case, but we switched to accommodate the cosleeper bassinet thing.
It’s weird. When we go to hotels I sometimes do take the other side of the bed. And yes, it’s the side closest to the door but I didn’t know I was doing that.
This is a world’s colliding post for me, as I follow that poster on Twitter. I wouldn’t expect most other people here to have run across her posts.
