Artificial banana flavor is based on the Gros Michel banana, the most popular cultivar of the banana up until about the 1950s, when a fungal disease wiped them out. The current banana doesnât taste like banana flavoring because the current banana doesnât taste like the Gros Michel.

Also, banana flavor was invented before most people in the country had ever tasted a banana, and the goal was only sorta finding a flavor that was banana-like.
Both are gross and shouldnât be ingested.
I actually like artificial banana flavor. It tastes nothing like bananas, but if you donât expect it to, itâs pretty tasty on its own, IMO.

The banana is actually kinda fascinating. We eat lots of different kinds of apples but thereâs basically just the one kind of banana mass cultivated.

There are a lot of varieties of bananas eaten in tropical countries, itâs just the one that gets exported everywhere else

Not basically. All of the bananas in the grocery store come from genetically identical plants.
When I was a kid I didnât like bananas, but I frickinâ loved the banana flavoring.
No wonder it sucks if itâs the banana equivalent of a red delicious apple.
