The student never paid me lol. $200 for thousands worth of equipment. he’s not actually a student he graduated. he’s got a tough life, low income and had a hard time getting a job. so I pinged him and said ‘did u pay me? and if not, if you want to just return the equipment that’s fine.’ he chose to send it back. so I find myself with even more equipment than I had before.
Time to open up SpaceLobster’s fishing gear emporium.
hope this email finds you well! My name is Elise and I’m an associate producer for CBC Radio. Our weekend show Fresh Air was wondering if you would have any interest in coming on our program to chat with us about Fishing with Nerds and more generally bringing newbies out ice fishing.
Ideally we would want to have you come on the program Sunday morning.

So I’ll be on CBC Radio Sunday morning at 7:30am, so probably 9am newfie time lol. You can live stream their Fresh Air segment if anyone’s awake at that time.
Alternative: Have them come to you, live, during one of your expeditions!
Cooke may remember this stuff. Fishing in eastern Ontario today, a mess of catfish or what they call mudpout.
Also noticeable, everyone here smokes except me lol. When I used to smoke, where I live now I was the only person who smoked. Come back to Eastern Ontario and it’s noticeable that I’m almost the only person who doesn’t.
Smoke or vape?
Smoke. They buy them by the case at the nearby First Nations reserve.
Why are they so black? What type of catfish are type? Used to seeing channel’s that are not that dark on top
I’m supposed to be taking a group of students fishing in two weekends from now. Way up north by timmins. A buddy from up there sent me these pics from today.
So that’s gonna be a problem. Not sure what I’m going to do just yet. even if it melts it’s gonna be a mess of slop and half frozen ground.
I think I have a solution. I’m going to take them to Eastern Ontario and we’ll fish the St. Lawrence. The river back there is a world class fishery, full of carp, bass, perch and pickerel. Bass won’t be open, and I’mnot fishing for carp (I guess people come from Europe to fish carp there).
Pros - I know the area, fishing is good. Family nearby, so we could even have them over for a fish fry.
Cons - camping at a campground instead of backwoods. I’m not a fan of campgrounds. I really was looking forward to getting into the back country.
Bonus: Eastern ontario has some pretty poverty stricken areas, including the area where I lived. Like it’s shocking to drive in some places, very ghetto. Some of my family live in places like that as well, my sister’s house is clean, but outside there’s at least 8 cars in various states (none of them good), a metal pile, and every time of animal walking around - horses, rabbits, LOTS of chickens, ducks, I dunno even what all. And some of my family look like they’re straight out of texas chainsaw massacre, no teeth, no shirt, heavy smokers. They’re wonderful people, but they look rough. So I’ll likely give the students some exposure to that side of things lol.
You should prepare them by showing them some clip of TCM and say it’s home movies of your family.
What a crazy weekend.
I was supposed to take three students back country camping and fishing. unfortunately the planned location still had ice on the lake. so we moved the trip to Eastern Ontario along the stm.lawrence River. Lots of fish there.
Put the boat in the river Saturday, just getting going, reversed it too quickly and boom, no motor. long story, no boat for the weekend.
So we made the best of it. Some time shooting guns and having fun on my sister’s farm. Went to a huge flea market. Went to St.alberts dairy and had some authentic poutine.Visited the original farm where the the McIntosh apple was discovered. had my family over for a camp dinner. All just a back home visit for me, but for I international students it was a side of Canada they hadn’t seen.
I’ve promised them that when the boat is repaired that I’ll take them for a day fishing.
Interesting side note. The girl in the pics is from Kenya, but if goa culture (a province in india). Way back they recruited a lot of goan indians to go to Kenya and her forefathers were part of that.
I asked if she had family locally, she claimed that the biggest group of goan indians is not in goa province in India,.it’s in Toronto.
