That’s great, although I hope you have something else in store to keep your name current.
Heh, no worries there. The list of things I should do, but both have not done, and continue to not do, is very long.
And I mean list in the conceptual kind of way, definitely not proactive enough to actually write out the list.
Maybe I missed it, which car did you get?
We got the VW ID4. For the most part, it has treated us well so far. About 5,000 miles on it in 4 months or so (compared to our first electric car, which we have had for 8 years, and has, I think, 40,000 miles on it..).
I like your integrity - procrastinating about writing out the list of things that you are procrastinating about.
As a larger man (read fat), i always assumed i would make a Miata look like a one seater if i tried to drive one.
Don’t ask where the stick shift goes in this concept…
I sat in a Miata once. It was in the show room at a Carmax. If I leaned forward, I could rest my chin on the top of the windshield. I would have legitimately needed to wear a helmet to drive the car to protect my face from the wind, and there would be no way to put the top down. I don’t know how anybody over 5’ 8" could drive that thing. Maybe, only maybe, if they were limber enough to really curl up into a ball.
I’ve joked that I couldn’t have a Miata. I would need 2, and then I could wear them like roller skates.
I’m 5’11. I’d say the car won’t comfortably fit anyone much taller than 6 feet. I call BS on resting your chin on top of the windshield while seated. Maybe someone the size of Shaq or Yao Ming could do that, but I doubt it.
I had a friend in college who was larger (than me), maybe 6’4" and not thin who joked the same thing. He also said his knuckles dragged the ground when he put his arm over the door.
“Fat Guy in a Little Car”
I was wondering about that. My cousin used to drive a Miata and she’s about 5’10". She loved it. If her head was bumping against the roof of the car I doubt she would have loved it.
It probably depends more on torso length than just height. Someone with long legs won’t hit the roof as much as someone the same height with shorter legs.
Then again, there is a limit for leg length as well in a Miata.
Disclaimer: I haven’t been in a Miata for quite some time, since I had a friend who drove his wife’s after she had a baby (and she drove his car). After the second kid, they traded to a van.
I’m 5’11 and fit pretty well in my Honda S2000 (similar to a Miata). I could see 6’4" being a tight fit though, and even I have a bit of an issue with the sun visor being a bit too low and in my field of view.
I’m 6’ tall and fit reasonably well in both a Miata (even the older ones that were smaller, haven’t driven one in years but would assume since the car has grown, legroom is likely longer?) and the S2000. Although I think in the S2000 I had the seat either on the last notch or the penultimate notch.
Now way back when at my first post-college job, we had a guy who was something like 6’4" and I’d guess 325lb, and he drove a Boxster. I never caught him at the right time to see how he did getting in and out of that thing.
Serpentine belt disintegrated after a few days of flapping that I heard. Had to drive it very easily downhill to my car guy who was done in an hour. Meanwhile, I was getting my wife’s tires checked for a trip. Both cars back, minimal cost. Wife’s car needs new tires soon (November sale at Firestone!).
My car is good for another 200K with that new belt!
So, no Bolt yet. Gotta keep from gagging so much. No manual, and it’s a Chevy.
So I used a Supercharger for the first time today. I’ve used a ChargePoint before (buggy) and a charger owned by a local utility (buggy). I didn’t need to charge but I was on the interstate and I know they have them so why not.
The Tesla charger just works. I pulled up, plugged in, charged for 10 minutes, stopped the charging and put the cord back. No app to deal with, don’t need to get my credit card out. Just plug and unplug. Wow.
Cool.
So, free?
Nah, I paid $6.11 for 51 miles of range. $0.36 per kWh. At home I pay about $0.14 or $0.15, can’t recall. That’s the good stuff.
That sounds about the same price in gas/mileage for my wife’s hybrid, except that in that time, I could fill the tank.
