it’s too bad that the Solterra sucks, because I want to want a Subaru

the model x and model y are suv-like options, but not the old school suv shape you may be thinking of

not sure i’d classify ct as a suv - more truck like than suv like imo

hope you find something to your liking

EVs are like ICE in that so, so many have the form factor that’s sort of on the line between a hatchback and an SUV. I think most consider the Y an SUV, but to me it’s basically a hatchback, from a functionality perspective it doesn’t matter. The X is certainly an SUV, it’s almost a van!

Granted, I’ve historically driven compacts (MazdaSpeed3, Civic Si, BMW 335, Chevy Volt), to me the Y feels nice and roomy. Good hiproom, legroom front and back, tons of storage with the sub-trunk and frunk.

and loads of head room for us tall-ish folks (over 6 ft) in the MY

I’m 6’ tall, so it’s not normally a huge problem for me. But yeah, I definitely noticed how high the roof was when I first got in one. A friend of mine is 6’ 7", maybe 6’ 8", and he didn’t have too much of a problem even sitting in my Y.

My wife is 5’ tall and wishes it had power pedals. A big ask, very few cars have those.

I have a trade deficit with my barber.

tell me more about these power pedals and why she wishes your Y had them. what i saw online had to do with ICE vehicles

Just adjustable, like telescopic steering. In order to reach the pedals she has to move the seat so far forward the steering wheel is right up against her. She can try to use the telescopic steering, but the fact is cars just aren’t well suited to people 5’ tall or 7’ tall.

thanks

same issue when sitting in the M3?

She hasn’t driven one. But pretty much every car she’s ever driven requires some compromise on seating and what not.

Might want to check out who made the battery pack when buying an EV

A prominent European EV repair specialist is sounding the alarm on Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles equipped with LG battery cells manufactured in China, claiming they are seeing “catastrophic” failure rates and significantly shorter lifespans compared to Panasonic packs.

Time to shut that guy up. Probably a pedophile or something. Let’s just twix something…

Changing the cabin air filters in the Tesla, I was not prepared for this. I got four filters in the mail and assumed it was basically two sets. Oh no, four filters under the hood. I’ve got two more on the way that go inside the cabin.

Good times out here @Klaymen and @yoyo. Good news: Tesla only recommends changing them every three years, this took about 40 minutes.

5 minutes for my car. Longest step was taking everything out of the glove box, which does not require the car to be on or to search a menu to open.

But we can go from 0-60 in about four seconds, so over time we make it up!

Every 3 years, you say…? :eyes:

4 seconds? So you take it slow to let the other kids feel like they can play, too.

Funny you mention that, I won’t really give it the boot when there is traffic around. Like, there are a lot of cases where I could easily pull out in front of someone and accelerate quickly enough that they’d never have to slow down. But any normal person wouldn’t expect a car to accelerate that quickly. Which, yeah, lets everyone else feel like their car is fast too!

Not too surprising, trucks are going to be hard, to the extent folks want to tow with them. And in general, I think the audience buying trucks isn’t sold on EVs.

In other news, the BMW Neue Klasse is looking pretty impressive, I haven’t seen real-world charging speeds but 400kW peak is really high. Also curious to see real-world range at ~70mph but that’s a large battery, and BMWs are typically quite efficient, no?
