They were parking unsold Teslas in a lot that I could see along my commute to work. I don’t know where they went, but you could absolutely tell from the change in cars parked there how sales were trending. The piled up during Q1 last year and the dwindled down quite a bit by end of Q2.
I didnt know enough about the timing of their public releases on sales to make anything off this, but there is almost certainly a group of guys out there gaming this by aggregating their own local observations privately with each other.
We just upgraded our 2010 Corolla to a “new” 2013 Camry Hybrid that my mom was getting rid of. I think we’ll hold onto it for a few years and then move to plug-in hybrid.
I think it’s a very cool idea. There will be a ton of folks modding these with 3D printed gadgets. I’m glad they offer the option for a larger battery with 240 miles of range - some may still balk at that but it’s a pretty usable range imo.
It’s neat that you can buy it now, and then later you can convert it to an SUV, maybe when you have a kiddo. So you don’t need to pay a ton up front and finance it, buy it for $27k and ask for the heated seat covers for Christmas or something.
I would consider buying one, especially if the AWD version has some real pep. 8.0s 0-60 is pretty meh.
I don’t think there’s an AWD version on tap. RWD only.
I think it makes sense as a 2nd/3rd vehicle for suburban families.
The idea that the base truck is cheap (and likely unprofitable for the maker) but that, like buying a pizza, all the profit is in the upgrades. The issue with that could be that 3rd party suppliers could suck all the profit potential away from the manufacturer.
Hard to say, because the maker doesn’t really do any making, yet. I’d consider as a replacement for my 2000 Ford Ranger, but I’d much prefer a 6’ bed. For comparison, my Ford retailed in the neighborhood of $16K in 2000. This is projected in neighborhood of $27K.
If they could make a wagon version, I’d be all over it.
But I would still want electric windows, so I can control them all from the driver’s seat.
And, whatever tuner/amp/speakers options there are, there had better be a top-quality one, else a way to get one off-mfr.
