Dreaming of retirement in 5 years (2030)

I’d say we sort of need you. The things I learned from you when we did the marathon and when I visited the next time. Baby oil on the feet and all….ill leave it at that.

Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere. There’s always plenty of baby oil here when you need it.

I enjoy mowing the lawn

I can’t say the same for painting. I’d actually rather refinish staircases but that would probably involve repainting the stringers soooooo

Agreed, painting is one of my least favorite house jobs

Walls in rooms are satisfying to paint and easy to knock out. Stairs would not be my thing, but I think I could get over the slow progress of getting through them with appropriate job pricing that would let me take my time and pay attention to the details.

We had kids in our 40s and it can be pretty tiring.

Its great fun taking them on travels and showing them around, but its also really tiring. Their energy levels are just incredible when they are toddlers. I have to spend a lot of time finding them activities to burn off their excess energy.

My wife will retire in 4 years (50), but I will keep on working as I have to keep stockpiling some ££ for the little ones education from 16-25 (a huge expense these days).

Please be advised that raisin toast will lose that deal.

Just get a handheld belt sander and 30 grit paper

There is just something so satisfying about using power tools (even if it’s just a palm sander)

Unless it’s an old house! Most paint before 1978 had lead.

I had kids in my 30s. My cousin had two kids in her 30s, and a surprise third child just after she turned 40. Her advise to me was that if we wanted a third, we should do it before we turned 40, as it’s a lot harder to keep up with them as you get older.

I feel like I should point out that ‘in 5 years’ and ‘2028’ isn’t quite mathing.

aren’t you still in Tennessee? I would think that there are opportunities there.

Lynchburg, VA
I do work for a Nashville TN company again though

Cool.

So my dream would be to buy a few acres in a rural area that still has some reasonable proximity to a city. Nashville/ Northern TN is on the short list.

Build a house and a pole barn/workshop building on the property and make things out of wood and do some dog training. Running a B&B sounds like fun, but it also sounds like a job. I’d rather not feel like I have a job, so waiting until I’m confident in not needing employment income is a requirement.

I did like the Lebanaon, TN, and really anything east of that, TN area. I like the no state tax thing as well.
