My first prediction: Donald and Melania receive the best treatment the top of the american medical profession can throw at them, right from day 1. They’ll have it beat inside two weeks and be back on their feet. Trump attends the last debate and pushes two things - first that he’s got a clean bill of health and secondly that just like he’s been saying, it wasn’t THAT bad.
My second prediction: It’ll be even kookier than that, and you won’t even be able to imagine what he’ll come up with.
I know people are calling for Trump’s death over this. Disregarding some level of empathy for them as a person, the world does not need that level of turmoil right now. I suspect his death, at this time, would throw the entire world into disarray that would last years, perhaps longer. So, here’s hoping for a healthy and fast recovery.

How would Donald’s death be a bad thing for the world? I’d rather he lose the election than die, but not seeing how him dying would be that tragic. He is responsible for 200k+ American deaths from covid. Seems like karma if he dies from it.

If this happened right before the election, it might’ve secured him the win. Hopefully it doesn’t draw out silent sympathy votes, if he makes it at all, that is.
If there is a vocal minority loudly expressing hopes that this turns fatal or glee that it does so, I’d not at all be surprised to see a large enough share of undecideds vote Republican.

Honestly, I think the world would be better off if this did him in. yeah, it would be chaotic for a bit but hell, it’s 2020 - bring it!
I hope that he at least gets sick enough that he can’t hide how sick he is. I want him in ICU.
Best outcome imo would be both him and Pence in ICU and we get Madam President Pelosi for a couple of months.

Worst case scenario is if he doesn’t die and is in the hospital on election day. It’ll secure him the win for sure.
why? Trump is responsible for the nation not taking this seriously and for 200K+ american deaths. Now he has it due to his own mismanagement for both the country and for him personally. Why would anyone want that in a leader?

The thing about this virus is there just isn’t much they can do for it, even if you are getting the best of the best treatment. Boris Johnson got best of the best treatment and was in the ICU on a ventilator - and he is 20 years younger than Trump.
They have figured out steroids + Remdesivir help some, so I’m sure he will get those, but most likely virus roulette on his actual health outcome - and his obesity + old age sure aren’t going to help.

somewhat yes, but I think my father getting oxygen immediately rather than being at home likely helped him to get better faster. Small things like that I think help.

Sympathy votes. They do wonders. It’s akin to a candidate getting shot right before the election. It usually creates a surge in votes for the candidate.
I’m also not sure how this will impact the election, if at all. Sure you could make the case he gets the sympathy vote, but I doubt the sympathy bump lasts for more than a few days, and I think it is downplayed by the fact that he has been so cavalier about this virus and people overall disapprove of how he has handled it.
On the other hand, you don’t want to vote for a guy on his deathbed and the chaos that could ensue from that.
Between the push and pull of those, I don’t think it will impact the overall voter feelings much. But no one really knows the answer here.

if true, that’s really strange. so people feel bad for the guy and don’t care about how him catching covid just illustrates what a terrible job he did? I can see having some sympathy for him getting cancer or something, but COVID just illustrates yet again how incompetent he is. I think it should cost him votes from reasonable people, but all those reasonable people probably were already voting for Biden.

40% of the people don’t vote, red or blue. Sympathy vote is to get the dormant republicans out to vote for him, it’s not for changing minds. Republicans certainly won’t think this illustrates his incompetence whatsoever.
Has a presidential candidate ever been elected while hospitalized? I would think that the uncertainty around his health would have a negative impact on his chances.

Sample size is small for sure. Then again, I didn’t think one would be electable after bragging about pussy grabbing and mocking the disabled. Hard to know what goes on in trumpkins’ heads.
