One of the DOGE targets is of course something that benefits Musk directly
Probably everyone has an opinion on that. This poll says that people don’t like switching clocks, but they are about evenly divided on permanent daylight savings time or permanent standard time.

Where I live, sunrise was 7:34 am this morning on standard time. If we had permanent daylight savings time, sunrise would be at 8:34 am. There’s no way the school board would stick with our current 8:10 am start time for elementary schools. I expect they would adjust the schedule by an entire hour.
Kids manage to go to school in the dark in many places further north, but i would agree that i don’t think most people wanting dst to be permanent are really considering that outcome.
Also, this is a recycled idea and I’m not sure why DOGE would get any credit for it. But I’ll call it a win if this is their only real accomplishment.
Agree.
Instead of coming up with massive spending cuts, they recycle an old idea that will cost even more money. Musk fans boys will rave about his genius.
They’re looking at privatizing the USPS. Sounds like a potentially good way of disenfranchising rural voters.

That would be interesting. A few months ago there was talk of the Royal mail (former UK version of USPS) being sold to a Czech billionaire. I think it was still the Tories.
Business types and much of the public keep forgetting USPS and Canada Post are required to service large parts of their respective countries that are unprofitable for most parcel delivery companies to serve.
Canada Post is currently on strike. All sorts of people in urban areas are saying who cares. People in rural areas are complaining because it’s ruining Christmas. They can’t buy, send or receive presents.
Does Canada post have a statutory duty to deliver post like Royal Mail in the UK?
Because thats what makes it hugely loss making.
In the UK, they are going to be cutting back on this because they cannot be subsidised by the taxpayer (Royal Mail was privatised a few years ago).
I don’t think they do if I’m understanding your question correctly. There’s lots of discussion about rejigging how they operate as part of the contract negotiation e.g. mail delivery going to 2-3 days a week, 7 day a week parcel delivery.
These days who needs daily delivery?
Amazon Prime users.
Increasingly, Amazon does its own deliveries.
Often not in rural areas.
Eh. Closest town. Nearest Whole Foods.
Heck, even Walmart delivers to the nearest Walmart. Free, cuz truck will be going there anyway.
And WTF did these people 100 years ago?
Not sure this has to mean disenfranchisement of rural voters.
Postal service becomes privatized, vote-by-mail is in place, voting is a God-given right, the government must provide the right to vote. Also, rural voters skew Republican.
Therefore, the argument will go, the government needs to pay private companies to make sure that every rural vote is counted. These votes need to be priority mail, and if the private companies charge top dollar for each ballot, that’s just the price of Freedom. If the private companies happen to have close ties with Trump allies, that’s just another coincidence.
