DOGE (or: the Elmo Show)

I got it originally from one of my favorite political reporters, Jamie Dupree.

Looks like he pulled it directly from the Treasury monthly report:

You can find this info being reported elsewhere.
U.S. budget deficit surged in February, passing $1 trillion for year-to-date record.

Wow. Wish more folks were as angry as him.

I have no doubt that Musk would love to close the base.

So much for “maximum transparency”. (Gift link)

I spend money on a NYT subscription. I figure somebody has to fund reporting like this.

Same here. I think NYT is still doing a good job.

Cancelled WaPo a while back.

Meh, hard enough to finish The Economist every week so I basically read that plus NYT/WSJ headlines

I like Peggy Noonan’s editorials too

Long live The Guardian and the NY Times. Happy to fund both of them, plus the Globe and Mail, of course.

Prolly not close the base. Just privatize it.
“Let me show you my plans for a rocket defense system that works off a smart phone. It’s rad”

Musk is looking to privatize away USPS. Goodbye, postal service. Goodbye, DoE. Goodbye, Social Security. Goodbye, Medicaid.

I assume USPS requires an act of Congress but they will just ignore that or weaken it to the point that it’s useless.

Right, just like the DoE. Can’t eliminate the DoE without Congress, but just cut half of its staff and watch it fail at everything, then say it’s a failure and needs to be privatized. Social Security having hours-long waits at minimized numbers of in-person offices will be used as evidence that SS is failing.

Can’t buy dog food for TSA dogs anymore. Feeding them or taking them to the vet is waste and fraud, and probably woke.

Another step toward privatization of TSA: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/07/us/politics/homeland-security-tsa-union-contract.html

The Department of Homeland Security said Friday that it was ending its collective bargaining agreement with workers in the Transportation Security Administration, claiming that the union contract was imperiling the safety of travelers.

The move could lay the groundwork for the government to fire T.S.A. workers and perhaps even privatize the agency, according to labor experts. Project 2025, a conservative policy playbook that Mr. Trump distanced himself from during the presidential campaign but has since followed, called for privatizing the T.S.A.

We can’t spend money to have the government feed woke dogs.

We need to find an outside contractor to spend our money to handle that.

The FCC, in a notice titled “Re: Delete, Delete, Delete” is soliciting public comment on regulations they should eliminate.
