In base 9, I’ve carried a one from the rightmost column, so I get 8 + 1 which is 10, then plus 7 for 17, then adding 6 gets me to 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 (I’m counting for my own sake here)
PatientZombie seems to have the winner. I pulled out a base 9 calculator to verify it all adds up.

I’m not sure that you need the “!!!” part. I just copy and paste in my data (select an additional blank row above your data if you don’t want the top row bolded) and it works just fine.

I’ll wait a week or so, then add another where I actually have the answer.

I think you messed yourself up by converting 8 +1 to 10 before continuing

My second’s in WATCHES but not seen in SWITCH.
My third is in KEYBOARD and EYEDROPS and SPRY;
My fourth is in CROSSLY but not in COMPLY.
My fifth is in CONSTANTINOPLE, you see
Yet isn’t in UPLAND or CRAFTY or SKI.
My last is in RODENT but not seen in CLOWNED.
My whole is a thing that comes out of the ground.
