Corruption, American style

Didn’t see this coming! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Might be paywalled. A company that helped plan January 6th has been handed $26M in government contracts. They also have a contract with the GSA that could pay them $100M over the next 15 years.

They had $50k in government contracts in the past 10 years. Promoting insurrection is highly profitable.

Surprised tRump is still friendly with them, since they LOST the last insurrection. LOSERS!

Seems like an interesting grifter who just wormed his way into various sinecures and married a model who he met when he was 32 and she was 17. Also introduced Trump to his third wife.

Very on-brand for the Trump admin.

This could leave a nasty scar.

The opinion, for those who might be so inclined: https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.287645/gov.uscourts.dcd.287645.60.0_2.pdf

Government cutting checks to criminals that were Trump allies just because they can. DOJ is both Trump’s personal attorneys and a source of funding for people he likes.

the IRS settlement will make it all look like child’s play. how someone can claim reputational damage when filing suit as a convicted felon is…a mystery.

FBI Director Kash Patel sues the Atlantic claiming false reporting about drinking, absences

[T]he Atlantic […] reported that during Patel’s tenure, the FBI had to reschedule early meetings “as a result of his alcohol-fueled nights” and that Patel “is often away or unreachable, delaying time-sensitive decisions needed to advance investigations.”

“We stand by our reporting on Kash Patel, and we will vigorously defend the Atlantic and our journalists against this meritless lawsuit,” the Atlantic said in a statement.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, seeks $250 million in damages.

The lawsuit alleges the Atlantic ignored the FBI’s denials and did not respond to a Friday letter from Patel’s lawyer Jesse Binnall to senior editors and the Atlantic’s legal department asking for more time to refute the 19 allegations the reporter told the FBI’s press office she would be publishing.

“It’s a heavy hill to climb to prove actual malice,” said Deanna Shullman, a media lawyer with Shullman Fugate PLLC in Florida, adding that she believes the lawsuit has little chance of succeeding. “A failure to obtain comment from the other side alone is not sufficient to establish actual malice.”

What would be the pros and cons of overturning New York Times v Sullivan?

Massive slush fund to pay criminal Trump loyalists.

Great precedent being set here. Use the DOJ to prosecute enemies, and any time there is a regime change everyone gets paid off with no oversight

It is being patterned on Obama’s fund that compensated Native American farmers and ranchers who were deprived access to federal subsidies for decades. The false equivalence escapes Trump.
