CL, EL, Cups and non-EPL League discussion

NEW (6) play PSG (7) next week. Winners get a rest, losers play two extra matches. Tie? Well, there are six other teams with 13 points ready to jump both of them, and two with 12 points.

TOT having another miserable EPL season but not looking bad in European play. Seems those are the only games they get up for these days.

TOT looking great in the group stage. Totally dominated today.

BEN pull off the upset AND get a last-second goal from their GK to reach 24th place. 5-way tie for 23rd, and GD was the key.
Marseille lost by 3, ended up 25th.
The RM loss to BEN put them in 9th and MCI into 8th.
BODO upset ATM to take 23rd.
SPO knock out ATH.
CHE knock out NAP, secure 6th place.

With three levels of focus and many teams vying to get or stay in their tier, this is far more exciting a group stage than before.

Meanwhile five ENG teams slide straight through to Round of 16 (out of eight). So much for any other League trying to claim their league is “better” using specious ideas.

This was amazing. Mourinho had already made his last subs and pulled off their primary goal scorers thinking they had enough. Coaches realized late that they needed one more goal for the tiebreak. They put the keeper in for the set piece at the death and it worked.

Downside to this new format: teams can play each other again right away.

Two teams played each other home/home in UCL third qualifying Round. Loser dropped to Europa, winner moves to the next round. The winner then lost in the next round and got dropped to Europa. Those two teams played each other in Europa League League Phase.
They both advanced to the Europa League Knockout Phase Play-offs and were drawn to play each other for yet another home/home.
Five matches, and they are not in the same domestic league. Unlike MCI v NEW, who will play at least four times, could still play an FA Cup match, and could still play one (I think, based on the brackets) more in the UCL.

RM vs Benfica re-match.

This one will be interesting.

Looking at Championship Table, it would be interesting if Millwall or Wrexham in EPL next year. I was in London near QPR stadium the day they played last season. Cops were everywhere and Millwall fans were definitely enthusiastic supporters of the club. Local QPR fans were not thoroughly impressed. West Ham would have to stay up for good rivalry along w CP (need better rival than Brighton) and Leeds, cuz Leeds.

Wrexham would be good story with ownership. Wales should have one team up.

Since it affects all of England,. mainly kids:

Note: USSF implemented the “no headers under 12” rule about 10 years ago.

Because they care about children.
Oh, and they were sued.

Now, this doesn’t prevent an incompetent parent from forcing their kids to practice heading the ball. Just prevents coaches from training it.

Also, note that many concussions are not from contact with the ball; many are from contact with another player’s head or elbow or shoulder from trying to head a ball.

Also, note that 99.9% of kids playing soccer don’t eventually play on the National Team or any professional team or even their high school team. No need for them all to take a shot to the head.

Good news! RM has more time to train harder than a match, under a taskmaster that Xavi refused to hire.
Good news! Vini Jr has even more time to train harder than a match, sitting out this weekend’s match.

Ronaldo thinks he has hand in this situation.

Shut up and play, or else you’ll be beheaded.
I mean, he should have known this was a sham league when he joined.
