Choose My New Job

The question that pops into my head is always: should this meeting be an email?

Btw, NA, in all seriousness, I also hate meetings and have avoided management in my company. I am paid less, but still paid reasonably well. I do technical work only, and I have almost no meetings. So what you want is a real thing.

There is a downside of sorts, which I can go days at a time with talking to nobody and noone but you slobs. No offense!

Every year I get dinged on my review for not talking much during zoom meetings. Tough to feel engaged in that setting.

We implemented “meeting free mornings” once a week.

They tested it out (HR had a few areas try it first) and they got like 98% support for it.

Meeting creep can be a real pain.

Lol, I have a reputation for getting into the weeds too much. Probably helps get me disinvited.
I have improved a bit, dialing it back, and offering follow-ups for nuances instead of rambling on.

I like having meetings start 5 minutes after the hour or half hour as a rule. That way you’re not pinging from meeting to meeting without the chance to even go to the bathroom.

Maybe see if Jesus will help you out . . . he can bring Lazarus along to help with generalizing the results.

That’s what the mute button is for.

That is a bridge too far for me. I have an irrationally intense fear of accidentally turning the sound on. I mean I’m not Toobin, but I do value my privacy.

My spouse’s earning potential is probably about 20%-25% of mine, and while we’ve discussed whether he should work, the decision would have little if any financial implications, it would be for his own fulfillment. And our family gets more fulfillment from him being at home being the primary caregiver and home manager than him being in the workforce, at this time.

My company lost a lot of people due to issues with upper management (meetings, micro managing…) some of us who stayed, basically set our terms for staying, insolating themselves from the annoying issues. Though doing basically the same work.

Nothing will ever happen if you don’t discuss your concerns with your management and see if there is a solution that will make you both happy. I assume that would be preferred to losing you.

No ultimatums, but have an honest conversaton if you feel you can.

There is one very distinct advantage in being 5-10.5 hours behind my office and my team:

I never have to worry about afternoon meetings.

(The trade-off is the occasional “all day” event that starts before sunrise.)

“Fungi” grower.
