Canada <> US

Not much of substance in the article, but the headline is worth a mention.

At least it should be quicker at the border when I visit relatives this summer…

And the US border guards might throw in a free extended vacation to El Salvador, if you’re lucky.

Fortunately I’m a citizen as I was born in the US, although my parents were naturalized citizens when I was born so I suppose it isn’t risk free…

Although I do pretty well on the Family Guy metric

And it looks like Carney might actually win the election and gain a majority.

What a turnaround. Trump backlash in full effect.

Has the likelihood of an early election declined?

Carney won’t just kiss the ring

I have never seen this dramatic a reversal in our politics. It is now Carney’s to lose. He should call the election any day now.

We’re speculating the next week or two. My Liberal MP has opened up or is at least setting up her campaign headquarters.

Obligatory “Dammit, Dan!”.

Assuming the Liberals win, it’ll be interesting to see how Krasnov tries to take credit for it.

I saw a headline last night of Trump saying Canada would be easier to deal with if the Liberals are in power.

Stuff like this is what pisses people off.

Problem in the US is that Border guards have way too much latitude to be assholes. Get them on a bad day and they can turn your life inside out just because you may rub them the wrong way.

Ironically, Trump should largely get credit for it if it happens. Liberals didn’t have a chance until Trump started making his stupid 51st state comments.

Trump definitely prefers Poilievre and the Conservatives to be in power. Carney will outmanoeuvre Trump.

In fairness to the current administration, border agents have been entitled dicks for decades.

Here’s the NYT article on the incident (gift link):

…and here’s an NYT article on German tourists who were detained because they brought tattooing equipment with them, and a border guard thought they were going to work in the US (also a gift link):

It would suck but be understandable for someone to be denied entry because their paperwork isn’t in order or because of the suspicion of working without authorization. However actually being detained longer than is strictly necessary to process the paperwork and turn the person around just ain’t right.
