Did not know that Oregon and Washington already prohibit such shipments so that is why it has to go through Vancouver. We could just harmonize our practices by joining them in the prohibition but Trump would go ballistic because coal is beautiful to him.
It’s not fixable without a massive shock, or going down a path that requires massive restriction of speech (which also runs the risk of that restriction coming from the right).
That being said, even though the left-wing media is generally starting from points that don’t rely on objectively false premises, an argument can be made that there’s a lack of objectivity coming from that side as well.
(Or, more correctly, objectivity just doesn’t generate the necessary ratings/clicks.)
Encouraged that the parents of the new US ambassador to Canada lived in the part of the Netherlands that Canadian soldiers liberated in WWII. Surely that counts for something. He should at least understand the Canadian sensitivity about the US annexing Canada.
This will take a few months to see much difference as most Canadians will not cancel existing planned US trips that involve financial penalties on cancellation.
My oldest daughter’s FIL, however, cancelled a February cruise out of Fort Lauderdale with some financial penalty and will be doing a Toronto-Vancouver train trip in July instead with the money.
The cruise might leave from Fort Lauderdale, but hardly any of her money would have ended up in the US. The ship isn’t built in the US or repaired in the US. The crew members aren’t US based and don’t spend their wages in the US.
I suppose that lots of the food and fuel will be purchased in the US, but that’s about it.
In 1973, when I went, you could buy a flexible train ticket that let you get on and off whenever you wanted. I made stops in Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Calgary and Banff and spent a few days in each place. Went with three buddies so it was cheap to rent a car to explore the area at each stop.
Best part was sitting alone in the dome car in the middle of the night crossing Saskatchewan in a wild thunderstorm. Hard to beat watching lightning on the prairies.
There is a flaw with this reasoning: The Project 25 folks that have published the game plan for the past couple of months would like to see porn banned in the US.
