It’s not spicy at all if that’s what you’re implying.
Your wrong.
Well, maybe it’s Canada-spicy
Put on five pounds during my Ontario visit. Not blaming just the poutine: a dozen dishes at dim sum yesterday with old high school friends (three brothers with an interesting China to Canada story) was a bigger factor. A lot of other bigger than normal meals with less exercise than usual. Time to get back into a healthier routine!
Maybe it’s just the time zones.
Yeah, you should’ve set your scale back at least two kilos upon your return.
Western US getting even with Canada for its arctic outflows in winter by sending its heat northwards.
For a lot of reasons, “President Harris” sounds better than “President Trump” to most Canadians.
Is this like damning with faint praise?
I mean, J.D. Vance or Ted Cruz or Ron DeSantis or Vivek Ramaswamy or your Great Uncle Herman who thinks that the Japs implanted brain scanning devices on Hawaiians during WWII is better than Donald Trump.
If the best you can say about Kamala Harris is that she’s better than Trump that’s pretty weak sauce as that bar pretty much could not be any lower.
She may also be better than Biden for Canada as his economic policies were even worse for Canada than Trump’s were during his presidency.
The top two news stories on Canada’s news channels right now are both depressing.
Forest fires have devastated the iconic mountain resort town of Jasper, Alberta. Not sure if there is a single, comparable town in the US where such damage would create a similar blow to the American psyche?
And Canada Soccer has suspended our national women’s soccer team coach due to allegations of past spying on competitors. So now we are a bunch of cheaters.
Going to start watching CNN again as the top stories will revolve around US politics instead.
Sad news about Jasper. I visited there about 30 years ago and it was amazing. Can’t imagine all that beautiful forest reduced to ashes.
There were a lot of historic buildings in the town that have been destroyed. One of my favourites, the 110 year old Jasper Park Lodge, seems to have been spared: our historic railroad hotels are irreplaceable.
The US has many special mountain towns, (eg Jackson Hole and Asheville) but Canada really only has two, Banff and Jasper, that are truly special to us.
The fires in Gatlinburg, Tennessee might be on par. Popular resort town in the Great Smoky Mountains. My Facebook feed was full of people frantically listing out which venues were ok and which were destroyed and mourning the losses. The amusement park Dollywood is in the next town over, Pigeon Forge, and plenty of families make annual pilgrimages to the area. Probably 60% of the population of the U.S. is within a day’s drive.
Lahaina, Hawaii would be another, although Gatlinburg is more accessible to a greater number of Americans, both in terms of distance and cost. (Although it is by no means cheap… it’s still a resort area. But more affordable than a lot of other resort areas.)
Anyway, sorry about Jasper. That completely sucks. IIRC the Gatlinburg fires all started from a single lit cigarette cast out of a car window on a particularly dry day.
This guy probably would have had his lab shut down by now if he was in the US but Canadian police have been accommodating. He is doing some interesting stuff and maybe some day will develop something with a huge positive application.
I’m putting this here, instead of starting a generic “Canadian Politics” or a new “Canadian Federal Election” thread:
So…Poilievre is getting impatient about getting started with taking Canada down the MAG-eh path?
In somewhat related news, there has been a seismic event in BC provincial politics as the former BC Liberal party has imploded, throwing its support to the resurgent BC Conservative Party which last had power in 1928. They are a bit MAGA as well and are benefiting from the Federal Conservatives’ current popularity. I personally don’t like this shift towards MAGA views on climate change, vaccines, LGBTQ rights, etc.
The volatility of our politics shows the dynamics of a system with many political parties.
cool but this is just a silly opinion:
“Science is only interesting because it’s useful,” Mr. Braun said. “If it’s not useful, it’s just a bunch of party tricks.”
