Partly because his followers admire his money-making ability even though it is ill-gained.
Our Trump-like Alberta Premier doesn’t respond well to criticism. Maybe Jasper should have said thank you.

…okay, yeah, I’d apologize to her at a Coldplay concert

Good thing this was the US Coast Guard apprehending the Canadian. If it was vice-versa, Trump would have an excuse to bomb us.
Is it legal for a Canadian to shoot individuals that are trying to attack him like that?
Just curious.
absolutely not. you can’t be shooting people and calling it self defence. that’ll land you in jail with reasonable certainty.
there’s lots of legal uses for guns. killing people isn’t one of them.
but I do see the business case for this guy.
I thought Canadian criminal code was a little more nuanced on the subject.
I understood that:
- It is illegal to carry a firearm for self-defense from humans. (Is it legal to carry for self-defense from polar bears, in areas/seasons where that’s a consideration?)
- It is legal to use reasonable and proportionate force to protect yourself or your property in self-defense.
- Hypothetically that would suggest that in a scenario where one were carrying or possessing a firearm for legal reasons (hunting, sport) and got into a situation where lethal force were reasonable and proportionate…it would arguably be kosher.
- Such scenarios would be extremely rare, outside Hollywood scripts.
There was a case a while back somebody shot at people robbing his house and he got charged.
Canada is very different from the US on guns.
I dunno the code. I do know the gun safety course people tell you that if you shoot someone, youre going to jail. And every time ive seen it in the news, jail.
If your guns are stored as required by law, theres no way this happens. You dont just have guns lying around, thats mostly illegal. If you want to shoot someone,.you have to go back in the house, go through a layer or two of security, similiar for the ammo, then come back outside, chase them down the driveway and shoot them in the back.
Its also worth noting that canadian gun laws distinguish between long guns and handguns. Handguns are not technically illegal, but are practically so. There is no scenario where two people are walking around with handguns, never mind a loaded handgun. Thats 100% illegal.
…and you’re getting at the reasons why I included the caveat
in my earlier comment. ![]()
Maybe that would have been better phrased as “so rare that only a pedant would raise it as a possible exception, and therefore for virtually all intents and purposes it’s not legal in Canada”.
Of course, south of the border, situations more common in Hollywood than in reality are a primary justification for various firearm laws and practices in the US.
Justin dating Katy Perry? If so, he is a chip off the old block as his dad dated Barbara Streisand and Kim Cattral.
Rumour has it he’s living in St. John’s and is dating a local energy lawyer here and she’s now pregnant.
There is probably a rumour in every major city about his love life?
Apparently he’s living here. I heard from a relative in Alberta several months ago that he was living here and more recently I was hearing from co-workers about people seeing him around town and the pregnant girlfriend. I know when he was PM, he seemed to pop up at a few events here unexpectedly.
Probably easier for him to move around the city vs say Ottawa/Toronto/Montreal. He would get mobbed there.
Or in Vancouver.
He seemed to be out and about like a normal person when I ran into him in Montréal 6-ish years ago.
Dear Leader’s administration wants to save the Canadian ostriches.

Admission to best Canadian university programs is as competitive as in US. My grandson got into his sciences program at UBC but needed high 90s average.
Undoubtedly there has been grade inflation as well. A 90% average in the final year of high school was almost non-existent when I graduated.
