Canada <> US

Anecdotally, this is untrue.

when I first took ambien I had more control.

Nowadays if I take ambien I’d wake up and check my phone and I’d have sent texts to a bunch of people and remember none of it.

I’ve also had sex on ambien and remember maybe 1 second of it.

I had to double check the thread title.

French’s thinks it can do no wrong in Canada since it sources its tomatoes in Canada unlike the evil Heinz. However the ketchup popsicles may be testing that good will! Won’t find any in my freezer.

My nephew would love those.

Just in case my US friends think the drag show controversy is unique to America.

I just don’t get this. Our local library had kid events that I thought were dumb. You know what I did? I didn’t take my kids to them, problem solved.

That was my thoughts as well. Article says the libraries are indoctrinating kids. They’re not, but so? Just don’t bring your kids.
These idiots brought their kids to the convoy protest in Ottawa. Hypocritical, and worse because I dont think kids should be at most protests, particularly when there’s a strong police force.

The hypocrisy is breathtaking. These protesters are all about Freedom but they want to take away people’s freedom to attend or not attend the events by banning them. Folks have a choice to take or not take their kids so I scratch my head about this one.

Yeah, it’s just dumb.
I think I’m reasonably socially conservative, but not ‘socon’. Socially conservative to me says ‘get your grubby hands off of my life’ which by extension means, get your grubby hands off of other people’s lives. Socons seem to want freedom for their lives and not others.
I think it’s actually more of a liberal attitude to suggest that gov’t should be regulating lifestyles. the socons don’t seem to have thought this through that far though.

I’m not sure about Canada, but that’s definitely not what socially conservative means in the United States. What you are describing would be a libertarian viewpoint in the United States.

Socially conservative in the US means “adhering to traditional Christian values: marriage is between one (cisgender) man and one (cisgender) woman, sex is reserved for married couples (subject to preceding definition of marriage), and abortion is morally wrong (and should therefore be illegal) in all or at least most circumstances”. Probably a few others that I’m forgetting about.

Twig’s view is what I would also consider a social conservative to be versus a libertarian in Canada.

I find that the word libertarian, however, is not as commonly used in Canada as in the US. I remember going to SOA meetings where many of the actuaries called themselves libertarians whereas I only know one Canadian actuary who actually called himself one. It is not as commonly used a label up here.

Yeah i get it. Socons are hypocrites. Im not libertarian, i just want smaller govt and.the govt mostly out of my business. Thats conservative imo. Socons arent conservatives, despite claiming to be.

No, it’s libertarianism. It’s not social conservatism at all.

Fiscal conservatism is close to that, but it’s still closer to libertarianism.
