hard to tell what’s important

That tweet:

I’m starting to think…just MAYBE…that the flaming, white-hot insane MAGA hatred of Britney Griner…might…just MIGHT be about her race and sexual orientation.

MAY-be.

Now, I don’t go looking for something that I just might find, but I’m wondering where the flaming white-hot insane MAGA hatred is.

I don’t even know if I want anyone else to find it for me and post it here, either.

I’m sorry you had to go through those.
I’ll endeavor to read them, as penance.

There is a lot of “what about Paul Whelan!?!?!” going on, calling him a hero marine, ignoring his dishonorable discharge/court martial while degrading Griner as “just a basketball player” (an olympic champion).

no way!!

(Checking wiki page…)

He enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in 1994.[7] He took military leave from Kelly Services to serve with the Marine Corps Reserve from 2003 to 2008, including service in Iraq. He held the rank of staff sergeant with Marine Air Control Group 38 working as an administrative clerk and administrative chief, and he was part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.[8] After a court-martial conviction in January 2008 on multiple counts “related to larceny”, he was sentenced to 60 days restriction, reduction to pay grade E-4, and a bad conduct discharge.[9][10] The specific charges against him included “attempted larceny, three specifications of dereliction of duty, making a false official statement, wrongfully using another’s social security number, and ten specifications of making and uttering checks without having sufficient funds in his account for payment.”[11]

What a hero!!
I mean, just like their savior, a lying cheating sociopath.
/s (if it wasn’t obvious)

Oh, and look,

Whelan supported US President Donald Trump and, after Trump’s 2016 election victory, Whelan posted in Russian Президент Трyмп Вперед!! (President Trump Onward!!).[13][a]

Because of course he did,
Jackass-in-Chief STILL couldn’t get him out, guessing that dealer-extraordinaire couldn’t make a deal in his own self-interested favor. In short, the person you appear to admire doesn’t consider you worthy of a prisoner exchange.

Also, twig a few posts up with her “i guess it pays yo be famous” comment

Are you claiming that is “flaming white-hot insane MAGA hatred” of Brittney Griner?!?!

Wow, no, not even close. I’m disappointed we couldn’t also get Paul Whelan out too, but I have nothing against Griner at all. I’m glad she’s out.

I worry about the precedent, but that’s not “flaming white-hot insane MAGA hatred”. We essentially negotiated with a terrorist, which is a dangerous thing to do.

Then why the fuck did you post “i guess it pays to be famous,” parroting the right-wing idiocy of Griner getting preferential treatment over Paul Whelan.

I see nothing in that post where you said that about your now completely ignorant pearl clutching over this “new precedent of negotiating with terrorists!!!” The US has always negotiated with enemies(including terrorists) to return US citizens wrongfully detained.

Uh, that’s because it was in the VERY NEXT POST.

And as for “it pays to be famous”… is there another reason why Griner was freed before Whelan when both were wrongfully detained? There had been talk of trading Bout for Whelan before Griner was even arrested.

Whelan was accused of spying. Maybe he was a spy. Maybe Russia actually thinks he was a spy. I’d i were a sovereign nation and held a spy and a drug user, I’d be much happier to give up the drug user. So long as they don’t mingle with my people, i really don’t give a shit what happens to them. Returning the spy might be dangerous. He might still know something. At any rate, i don’t want spies to get away.

I don’t mind that the administration bailed her out. But i am getting increasingly impatient that they won’t deschedule cannabis.

And there is a reason why what you posted first was what you posted first. It says something about what was the more important thought to you.

Yes, as Lucy has pointed out.
The facts of the actual two cases are why Griner was freed before Whelan.
It does appear that your entire knowledge of the two cases are from very bias media.
I would reccommend learning more about the sentences, convictions and past criminal history of all those involved.

I rather doubt it. I don’t consider Otto Warmbier guilty of subversion either though. :woman_shrugging:

But you are right that the accusation against Whelan is more serious than the accusation against Griner.

Good advice, including Viktor Bout, whose crimes are massively worse than everything Griner and Whelan combined have ever done or been accused of doing - both at home and abroad - in their entire lives.

There’s a reason Bout is called the Merchant of Death. There was no good option here. A less bad option would have been getting both of them for Bout, but it sounds like that wasn’t going to happen. It’s unfortunate though.
