It’s not a great look. Those born between 1946 and 1980 (of which I’m one) benefitted greatly from the enormous sacrifice of those who lived through the depression and World War II. Compare that to those born after 1990 (in the UK) who finished high school when or after the global financial crisis occurred, followed by austerity and Brexit. Probably I’m oversimplifying because I’ve heard that the 1970s weren’t that great in the UK either.
The UK is in serious need of tax simplification.
The UK tax code runs over 20,000 pages.
Its just absurd as it has tripled in size since 1997.
I like #5 and #18.
It’s pies that should be price capped in Wigan not kebabs if you are trying to win votes.
At least you can get meat pies there (assuming you mean meat). They only put fruit or chicken (disgusting) in pies here.
Give a Wiganer a fruit pie instead of a meat one and they’d probably kill you.
I misread anyway a Wigan kebab is a pie sandwich, should have remembered that.
Major Police Scandal brewing after the video of the Nowak murder was made available online. Video is really appalling.
One officer has resigned already, with more to come.
The UK needs to have a serious re-think about policing. You cannot treat people differently simply based on background. We have given far too much special treatment to minorities, which is why you get situations like this one where it was cynically weaponised. This is a recipe for massive levels of societal resentment.
And another knife attack from an asylum seeker from Sudan.
This is all playing into Reforms hands now. Northern Ireland is already a very difficult place to be for most immigrants/asylum seekers, and this latest attack has created a political problem for Starmer and Burnham. No way they can relax the coming immigration/asylum changes now.
Ive been hearing so much about Wigan recently with Zoe Bread campaigning against the giant warehouse that got built there.
Astley isn’t it? Not really Wigan though under Wigan council along with some other surrounding areas. Getting into some wealthy areas around there.
I dont know. Here’s her most recent short video on it…
Eta I think she mentions Astley.
Yeah it is the Astley warehouse issue. Near some relatively wealthy people so clearly unacceptable. Astley falls under Wigan council but not in Wigan itself.
From the videos I’ve seen, I’d be pissed if the warehouse had been built that close to my home too.
It seems to totally loom over their houses..
But it is the risk you take when you buy newly built houses on an industrial estate
That landscaping doesn’t seem consistent with newly built. They seem pretty well established.
Built in the last 20-25 years (new to me), you can tell by the architecture (well I can because I come from round here). I looked and they were built in the early 2000s. The industrial estate existed back then, so they should have understood the risk of further development.
I’d probably be upset too and not want it in my back yard either but isn’t this really just a NIMBY complaint?
WHINY complaint. I’m guessing that it was zoned for a giant building, probably when people bought their houses.
