Annoyed Thoughts

Why fusilli?

Because you’re ‘silly’

I’m in my den and the power flickers, and I hear the unmistakable sound of a transformer going. After a few flickers and a big bang, power is out. I walk a couple doors down the street, and a dead tree limb is on the power lines smoking. The adjacent transformer is cooked.

Hopefully they get to it quickly as it is forecast to be 91 today. Fortunately its still pleasant at the moment.

forgot the iphone passcode. shut out. tried to get on the company chatbot to correct and it required 2FA using that phone.

also,. forgot the id/door opener for work today

Yikes.
The non-guarantee of constant electricity is what’s leaning me toward solar and battery backup.
Power went out yesterday for about 20 minutes. By the time I got to informing the power company of the outage (on my phone), it was back on.

It was back pretty quickly. Didn’t time it, but under an hour.

Someone keeps writing the enword on one of my whiteboards  it happens after I leave for the day. Have a couple suspects in mind, but no proof. Frustrating!

What does admin say? Can you set a hidden camera up?

or do people have to swipe out? so you know who left after you.

Even more disturbing that you have a couple of suspects

Have you thought of bringing in the police? Have you reported it up the ladder?

Yup. Admin is trying to look at the cameras to see if anyone is getting in at odd times.

Supposedly another teacher on my wing had it too this week.

I may not catch the person before the last day pretty soon, but, I won’t stand for this. My classroom is a safe space for all, and I won’t have anyone be targeted in any way.

(We also have quite a few LGBT students at my school, and they are all comfortable with me. The other day at the end of the day one of them told me that two boys that were throwing paper wads around also happened to throw a partially filled Gatorade bottle and it ricocheted off his back and hit a second LGBT kid in the face. So I swiftly wrote both of the boys up. Not sure what’s in their hearts, but, the optics were enough for me. Now they’re banished from my period to ISS for the rest of the year. :flexed_biceps:)

No enword today. :+1: I bet whoever’s doing it knows we’re on to them.

No enword again. :tada: Looks like we’re done with that phase for this year. I’ll have to keep being watchful into next year though. Hate never rests, so neither can we.

Our intern is starting soon.

Our HR failed to schedule interviews in a timely fashion after several requests, so I told them nevermind don’t bother, I will schedule them myself. I did them and made my selection, told HR to please send an offer letter. Next day, please send it. Next day, please send it. Saturday at 6 AM, please send it. Monday, should I make an offer or are you going to?

Finally after acceptance, I asked HR if they’ve informed the others we’re moving on, and they told me yes.

Today I receive… “I am following up as I am still interested in this opportunity…

Yeah that blows. We mostly operate on a ‘Here’s what I’m going to do, do you (HR) have a problem with it?’ approach, that appears to circumvent these issues. It means I have to do more HR related stuff on my own than I’d like, but I’m willing to do the work if it gets me what I want.

How are you able to find good interns this late in the school year? We have trouble getting good ones after mid-September for the following summer!

Hahahahaha.

Actually, I’m surprised at the candidate we managed this late. I buried the lede there, but in fact we did interview this month after my continued pushing.

This kid is an incoming junior, with GPA just over 3. That’s the worst of it.

However, he gave me a lot of good vibes. In particular he has a self-driven, monetized YouTube channel and is an active video game modder/artist/VA. Since he will be working 2x/week from home, and I am full-time remote, that gave me some confidence he can be self-driven at a distance. He also has (some) actual, practical Python experience in real-world application.

The other two I decided to interview were not great. One showed up unshaven in a ratty long-sleeve tee  He was already my “barely-made-it” interview.

We recently filled an intern position, and I was shocked at who all applied. Two candidates have already graduated and applied, two applicants from Columbia. Several with 2+ exams.

Are you hydrated? My eyeballs get dry and it feels like terrible pain when I wake up. Like sandpaper grating my cornea.
