I need to patch some servers at work. Somebody with more privilege than me changed some setting so that when you remote into the servers, it locks the computer after 60 seconds of inactivity. And you can’t paste the long, random password into the lock screen, so every time I need to go back to a server, I need to disconnect from the session, then reconnect and paste the password.
Or you could read this as “every time I look at something on GoA”
A 60 second timeout? I thought our 5-minute server timeouts were bad.
We’re using Beyond Insight to manage access to the servers, however, which is its own special kind of hell.
I hate texting as a form of communication. It’s useful for negotiating logistical details, but I don’t want to have a meaningful conversation that way.
it helps people process and answer with more thought behind it
I don’t think very quickly in interpersonal conversations and I feel safer texting sometimes (I’m fine with actuarial exams just not thinking on my feet talking to people)
but a lot of people think you shouldn’t so I avoid it anyway
I hear that.
I am also incredibly annoyed with the use of “u” for “you” now that we have full keyboard texting. Like, my kids will throw a “u” in the middle of a whole sentence. My dude, if you have bandwidth to type “experience” you have the bandwidth to type “you”.
If it’s between dialing or answering my phone, and conversing over text, there’s no choice. Text is absolutely my preferred form of communication if an IRL conversation can’t happen. I am filled with an illogical sense of dread whenever my phone rings.
I knocked some coffee on to my old, PoS laptop by the numeric keyboard. I managed to sop up most if not all of the liquid.
Also, if someone asks you something you don’t want to do by text, you have more time to respond kindly but refuse
In real life I either respond curtly in the negative, or say yes when I don’t want to, both of which I really need to stop doing. Soon.
The alternate scenario where I refuse too quickly and then have second thoughts but feel uncomfortable going back, is also more likely to happen in person than by text. It is much rarer though.
Prednisone not 100% effective. Still coughing spasms that make sleep hard (on top of steroid sleep issue). The combo of the steroid and all the other otc shit im throwing at the symptoms is messing my stomach up
5 days of prednisone did nothing. another week added to the pile with an antibiotic. sleep still includes OTC drugs to compel sleep over the coughing fits. should have asked for the codeine stuff i guess, but didn’t.
Our nearly 14 yo cat has picked up a new bad habit: if I leave my water glass unattended, she will stick her paw in there. She’s done it 3 times recently, and two of those times were in the last week. Unfortunately she might have also done it when I was out of the room some
Is it national idiot day? Because that’s the only people I’m talking to today. Geezus.
And Google is totally screwing with my ads. Thousands of bucks wasted this week. And, another week wasted.
Seems like a good day too do a walk away and pivot to doing other stuff. Except I hate to waste another day this week.
Everything today.
googlefight.com still exists, and allows me to enter a fight, but then just displays “page not found”

It’s annoying when in a public bathroom people use both rolls of toilet paper the same amount. The correct way is to use one roll up before starting one the other roll. That way the empty roll gets replaced while there’s still toilet paper instead of both rolls emptying at the same time.
(This drove me nuts when working as a janitor in college.)
I was just in the bathroom at sbux: there was barely any soap in the soap dispenser AAAAAAAAAND the hand sanitizer unit just outside the door was empty too!!
I didn’t check the TP dispenser.
Got roped into writing an exam question at the 11th hour - had about a week to pull it together. Work got crazy, so I waited until the last minute. It took me about 10 hours to draft, which was about 5 hours longer than I had expected. This doesn’t include the time I spent reading the source material (but fortunately it was material I had written questions on in the past).
