On one of my discords, someone said that holding opinion XYZ, which no one had expressed, was something that people would say. So now people are pissed bc they feel that was being used to refer to them, even though they hadn’t expressed XYZ out loud. And the server drama has exploded out of the topic it started in and into general chat.
I’ve been hearing a lot of ads from injury lawyers lately.
And there all like “We Win!”
Win what? Injury lawyers generally accept cases when fault has already been established, but the insurance company gave a low ball offer. Injury law isn’t about arguing fault, it’s about arguing reimbursement.
It doesn’t mean a lot when you say “we win” when you only accept cases that you know you will win. Which you didn’t win in the first place.
I went to the dentist today to get a cavity filled and an old amalgam filling fixed. Wah. 
So I had a meeting with quite a few folks, including our new-ish CFO. No agenda, so I had no idea what to prepare. And she asked a question that would take me about 20 minutes to answer, and was annoyed that I didn’t come prepared to answer it. Like, if it’s so important then put it in the agenda! Don’t just schedule a meeting called ‘Medicare revenue recognition’ and expect me to be prepared for very specific questions.

Ran to KC this evening to pick up my e-bike (just a tune up), traffic backed up for miles. Used to live in Denver but it’s been a while, traffic is bullshit.

In the UK, I would have absolutely replied to them (as what they did was clearly not done in good faith)
Don’t know how it works in the US though when you have at will employment.
That’s the kicker. Here’s the deal. Last month, Finance asked us to produce 20+ revenue scenarios for the board meeting, for the last batch I got data around 7PM and was asked to turn four scenarios around that night. As you can imagine, that leaves no time for QA or further analysis. Nobody even told me which scenario was presented to the board - arguably I should have asked but I was already on to the next fire drill.
This month was marginally better, seven scenarios but still being asked to turn things around in a few hours.
I don’t mind questions, I get it. But don’t schedule a meeting with questions that you think I should answer without alerting me to your questions, and then put me on blast for not having answers off the cuff.

I’ve had high ranking people come in and your first meeting 6 months later they ask you something they clearly are testing you on
and of course this happened when due to the upheaval they’ve caused I wasn’t able to get this info and was told by the previous guy I shouldn’t need it, but it feels too much like making excuses to say so in the moment
It’s like, okay, you got me. Nice going doing something that is going to embarrass me, that should make me very likely to be satisfied next time the employee survey goes out. Now maybe give me a little help getting the info I need to do my job. And maybe a little forewarning would be nice.
100% this. I’ve also got another new C suite person doing the same thing. Plus I already had, you know, things on my plate.
I really feel the comment about embarrassing you. Like, I hope the CFO got that smug sense of satisfaction in the moment, thanks for making me feel shitty but good for you.
If you were running, how did you hit traffic? Were there a bunch of other runners?

Producing scenarios for reasons because they might be interesting is such a soul crushing exercise. Is this to help make a decision? OK, if there is a point, sure. Or if a regulation requires it, fine, compliance. If i draw a line on a piece of paper and tell you it more or less looks like that, is that what you want to know? Is anything beyond the second digit relevant? Probably not. The 500 inputs that go into the precise line all have these little error terms, and half our data is shit, so maybe we could put this napkin on a powerpoint and call it good?
This feels mostly like our CFO having the ‘right’ number in mind, and can we find some combination of assumptions to get to the right answer.
I’ve argued that we should set assumptions up front. Argue the merits and what not and agree on what is most defensible. And only then do we turn the crank and produce a model. This has not been popular with Finance.
My CFO did make one call this week that I disagree with at a fundamental level. I told her in a meeting why I’m concerned. And I told my manager today that the CFO is doing something that I unambiguously object to, so if shit goes south I won’t be blamed.

This whole week I’ve had a block of meeting mid-day. Yesterday I had a half hour for lunch at 11:00-11:30, today I’m booked from 10:00-2:30, when am I supposed to eat???
