If I’m reading this correctly, Canada basically operates on the “doc in a box” model.
Still in a crib, which was a big improvement over in our bed.

Doc in a box is basically a reference to a walk in clinic where appointments aren’t required. It’s typically used for minor health issues. It’s not my impression that all doctors in Canada operate this way.
Yeah if you have a family doctor you’re okay, otherwise there were 2 urgent care clincs in Kitchener that closed early when they were full. Good times.
These would be the doc in the box
I went to one of those clinics years ago, I was probably in my 20’s. Doctor proceeds to tell me everything’s fine, but he did say that one time to someone else and they went home and died so he doesn’t want to risk that again (I am not exaggerating here). He writes some test or other on a throat depressor and tells me, get to the hospital, stat.
I race to the hospital with my giant popsicle stick. The emerg nurse looks at it and says "Dr. so and so?'. Yeah. it wasn’t an emergency. Just an opportunity to send a kid running into emergency waving a popsicle stick.
But yeah, the walk-in clinics are backup in Canada. Primary defence is a family doctor. I’ve been seeing the same doctor forever, I call and book an appointment as needed. The clinics are only busy because there’s an ongoing shortage of family doctors.
Yep. I was in Ontario for 10 years and could never get a family doctor. I think I went on the official no-doctor list around 2015/16 and I was only offered a Nurse Practioner a year or so later. I had to drive out to Guelph for a psychologist. It was a bit nuts.
