I will say the Veranda is pretty good, and the Holiday Blend. The rest do taste burnt, and they suck. But when I go to Starbucks, which is rare, I usually get a latte, and those seem fine. I don’t think I’ve been in over a year though.
Otherwise, I think Dunkin’, McD’s, and QT are all perfectly acceptable on the road. I normally get Kirkland Keurig things at Costco for home, it’s fine enough. This week I did get some Starbucks Holiday Blend. For years I ground beans fresh every day and brewed a pot in my Moccamaster, but my wife stopped drinking coffee and I lost interest.
I work with a product manager. Said PM sent me texts at 10:50 PM yesterday, 2 AM today, and 7:30 AM today, then later this morning a cryptic all-caps email. I set up a video call and they were manic.
I suspect they’re going through some shit, but it’s definitely not great for my mental state.
Geez… I’ve sent emails at bizarre hours, but text messages usually ding the recipient so I don’t text at weird hours unless it’s pretty urgent and/or I know the person will be up. That’s what email is for. If you get an audio-notification about a work email sent in the middle of the night then that’s on you.
I’m not sure I’ve ever sent or received a work-related text at late hours, actually, only personal. Just emails for work stuff.
I’ve been wondering if perhaps their job is on the line or something. Other working theories are just actual psychotic breakdown, or their infant kept them up all night and they’re overtired and didn’t think about the ramifications of their communication.
Male in this case. I know very little about them personally however, just know they have an infant. For all I know they could be going through a divorce, or who knows. Was annoying at 7:30 AM to get a text of “are you working on this yet???” for something I received in the middle of the night. I hadn’t even glanced at my phone until then.
One of my thermostats broke. That’s not why I’m posting though. When I went to the hardware store to buy a new one, I turned on talk radio in my car. And the hosts were encouraging people to call in to express their outrage at DD’s change in its loyalty program.
Although, they seemed a lot more concerned that DD no longer gives you a free coffee on your birthday than that it takes more purchases to get a free coffee.
But anyway, I guess other people are bothered, too.
My own annoyed thought – the new thermostat wants the wires to enter the back in a very different place than the old one, and if I mount it the way it wants, there will be a big hole in the wallpaper next to it.
I mounted it upside down for now, and I’ve ordered a different one that hopefully will fit. On-line images of the back suggest it will. I also bought a plate that goes around it, that will hide the hole if it’s close.
The point system could be based on the possibility that the company pays more to its suppliers for a bagel than it does for a cup of coffee. So it might cost you less to buy the bagel, but it costs them more. But I didn’t put much thought into it, maybe that doesn’t make sense when you follow it all the way through.
Interesting. I mean, I’m not outraged or anything, just mildly annoyed. I was far more disappointed about them discontinuing my favorite breakfast than I am about this. Especially once I realized it’s not actually that much more spend to get the free coffee under the new program. I had been thinking about the fact that the inflation was affecting the frequency of getting a free coffee for a while. There’s probably been a 20% increase in prices since they adopted the old program.
So it was entirely reasonable for them to make a change. More just annoying to get used to something new.
Yeah, I mean if I’m going to buy both at the same time anyway it’s just nonsensical the way they have it priced. But whatever. Maybe they deliberately put in a stupid tax.
School fundraisers are freaking horrible. I hate how much they get my kids’ hopes up about prizes they’re not going to win.
They DO have a “just donate money” option this year, at least. I’ll do that for them. Grandparents and aunts and uncles might chip in a little this year, too.
My son’s choir at school is doing a mattress fund raiser. Like, they are bringing a couple dozen mattresses into the gym for a day and setting up a mattress store, and we’re supposed to tell our friends and family to go buy a mattress.
I live on the main street in town and I put up a sign advertising it, that may be about the extent of my participation.
Anyone can buy a box of cookies or a candy bar. At Christmas, lots of people want a wreath. What fraction of the population is in the market for a mattress?
Does the band leaders spouse own a mattress store or something?
Was going to winterize the boat on the weekend because it’s going to be nice. Then I realized, if it’s nice, well, hell, I might as well go fishing one last time.
Then my spouse reminded me that my truck is sitting in the driveway waiting to go to the shop on monday for a brake problem. So I’ve got nothing to tow the boat with. That was quite a letdown.
Apparently there is a company that does this with schools across at least the Midwest. I’ve never heard of anything like it but I googled it and I guess it’s a thing.
