Anthropic is currently turning down the Pentagon. Which is one of the depressing things about this administration and capitalism in general. You can either sell your soul to the bad guys or Elon Musk will do so three times over.
Grok is currently not nearly as good as Claude, Gemini, or GPT. If the 3 leaders, OpenAI has the least morals, and might give in. But eventually Grok will be good enough anyway. As will whatever other models the Pentagon buys or makes.
The scary thing to me is that AI is going to be legitimately great at both mass-surveillance and killing people. Really really great.
I wonder how much AI valuations are supported by an assumption of DARPA contracts.

Makes sense that Trump would love McDonalds. It became a big company because someone screwed the founders over, using extremely shady tactics and ignoring agreements that were made, and it’s all about real estate.

This scares me as well.
We may be able to hope that the potential for mass surveillance is brittle. I’m thinking of masks that make facial recognition hard, for example. Also, it is unclear, at least to me, how well mass surveillance can work. Even with perfect use of information there may still be many false positives.
Maybe the autonomous killing machine will come to be treated similarly to biological weapons. I doubt it though. I imagine with it, making war for a country like the us would be politically much easier.

You should hear some of the tech bros (Larry Ellison specially) talk about mass surveillance.
He is 100% into having AI-assisted cameras everywhere. Even in a bathroom. And you can access said info via court orders (like this will never be abused).
Some truly vile authoritarian tendencies there.
I am reminded a bit of the movie Demolition Man.
We are all going to have to repeatedly violate the morality code just to get some makeshift toilet paper.
