Part of Columbia’s anti-semitism settlement is an agreement to reduce foreign student enrollment. The administration has bailed on trying to pretend that immigration of is ok when it is done “the right way” by smart people who work hard.
This is making life difficult for pretty much every university, as international students are a huge source of revenue. They essentially subsidize American students, bringing their costs down. College is going to get more expensive, or less useful, or both. Another big self-own by this administration.
It’s amazing how fast one of the world’s strongest national university systems got destroyed.

And it takes longer to eventually fix things.
And the way Trump is destroying things through whatever the F he feels like doing today with little to no pushback from anyone just signals that any fix post Trump could just be temporary.

I’m not so sure. I expect this administration would like to see the college/university sector shrink. Fewer professors, more scrambling for fewer students, fewer grads, those are all goals.

They are seriously using 1984 as a playbook. It’s eerie to watch. And there is little to no pushback, which is bizarre.
Agree those are their goals. I mean it makes America weaker. Basically ceding our enormous edge in science and technology for no apparent benefit.

Just on the backend of this wage discussion:
I understand why a president wants “his people” in departments which are policy-affected but the Bureau of Labor Statistics is not of that genre. The only reason to want your own people in a statistics department is to fudge the facts. Hassett can be straight on the reason as there is no real pushback to his comments.

I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised…all I heard 4 years ago were 1984 references because Biden’s team called up social media companies over Hunter Biden’s laptop before the election. How many other times has the right’s screaming about something been the best prediction of their own strategy?

Fox News doesn’t call Trump out on his mistakes but they fact-checked the timing of the last major volcanic eruption on Kamchatka and corrected the Soviet statement of 600 years ago to 475. Glad they are fact-checking the important stuff.
