A Reminder of where America is heading

All cultural celebrations are now verboten in the military unless they involve white people and drinking

I liked this quote by Don Moynihan describing the military whitewash of the code talkers:

“You literally cannot tell this incredibly cool part of American history without centering Native American identity. It is an powerful demonstration of how diversity provided tangible military advantages over an enemy committed to White supremacy.”

Update on this story.

It seems that they ignored a court order after having been told in person.

This is definitely going to blow back on them as this is not a bunch of Venezuelans. Brown has money, legal recourses, and connections. They can fight back hard.

The judge presiding is Leo Sorokin, who worked in private practice at the law firm of Mintz, Levin, Cohn before becoming a judge.

She had videos of a Hezbollah leader that she theoretically was viewing just for religious purposes, and did not agree with his politics

My own experience of people who have religious leaders is that usually they have the same politics as them as well.

Per wikipedia
Hezbollah has been involved in several high-profile attacks; it is believed to be responsible for the bombing of the US embassy and the American and French barracks bombings in Beirut in 1983, the assassination of Rafic Hariri in 2005,[66][67] as well as later attacks, including bombings and hijackings.[68][69] While Hezbollah has been regarded as a resistance movement by some scholars,[70][71][72] the entire organization, or its military wing alone, has been designated as a terrorist group by over 21 countries,[73][74] including most Western countries.[75]

In the united states, people tend to choose their religion. they are, say, baptist because they choose to go to that church.

i believe this is not so in most places.

but even in the states: i don’t think all roman catholics agree with the pope on all politics.

it is really the protestants, who have almost a marketplace of worship options, that tend to choose religious leaders with politics they share.

I am speaking of religious leaders who divulge their politics to their followers.

There are many leaders who specifically do not, like the Pope doesn’t endorse a specific American party - so those don’t apply..

I wasn’t really talking about Protestants. My own experience is with other groups.

Try the mega church route. It’ll blow your mind.

She is from Lebanon so its hardly surprising that she knows who Hezbollah is.

Also, this is a very McCarthy’esque view of the world.

Banana Republic countries operate this way. Not those with actual due process.

Looks like US scientists are now leaving the US because of Trump and his behavior.

This guy has also descended into the right-wing racket.

It may well be the case that she should be deported. But if that is true, it should be easy to demonstrate that in a hearing. In particular, when there is a court order requesting a hearing and denying deportation, then that hearing needs to happen. We are a nation of laws.

The US is basically applying purity tests when it comes to immigrants now.

Can’t have people coming with diverse views about the world.

Nope. Not allowed anymore apparently.

Very remniscent of 1930s Germany and the 1950s McCarthy era.

This will very much damage the US in the long-run.

I know that there is some discussion in Canada if trying to hire doctors from the US who’ve been laid off by Trump.

Immigrants have always been scrutinized more closely

In Ellis Island, if you looked like you had a disease, you were sent back

It wasn’t McCarthy doing the selections either

With millions of Indians waiting to immigrate (many who are very capable of being doctors), it’s not unreasonable

Prohibiting racial segregation is woke

It’s a performative change, as segregation is still banned legally, but it is telling that this is high enough on someone’s list of performative changes to implement it.

I’d posit that many if not most religious leaders clearly disclose their politics to their congregants, whether or not they say to vote for a candidate.

When you outlaw laws, only outlaws,… um…
