A Reminder of where America is heading

Brilliant article on the perils of “anticipatory obedience” which is happening at a breathtaking pace.

lol at irony of that appearing in the NYT

NYTimes has been very vocal about the dangers of a Trump dictatorship. What more should they be doing?

NYT has been terrible on Trump. During the first term, they were a leading source of sanewashing so that Haberman could continue to have access. They were heavily anti-Biden, and ran very few stories calling Trump old while attacking Biden for his age (the WSJ and Washington Post both had more even coverage). They recently ran a cray cray op ed piece supporting Trump’s attempts to ignore the 14th amendment, still have many sanewashing headlines. They also spent years running anti-trans propaganda, fired a bunch of staff who complained, and now are shocked! shocked! that Trump is enacting anti-trans EOs.

Pressuring the justice system in another country on behalf of sex traffickers…

Turkish proverb…which I think is very applicable here.

Trump tried to nominate a sex trafficker to Attorney General. He invited somebody to the White House who was banned from Twitter for posting child p**n before Elon Musk specifically reinstated him. Sex trafficking and similar crimes aren’t out of the norm in this administration.

Given the QAnon obsession with elites and sex trafficking, it’s even more bizarre that now they like sex traffickers.

Perhaps they could release the last season of Handmaid’s Tale early so we can all know what lies ahead.

“Sex trafficking for me, not for thee!”

Also apt: every accusation is an admission.

The Kennedy Center canceled a concert planned for May 21 that was to feature the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC, performing alongside the National Symphony Orchestra. The two groups were planning to collaborate on a piece called “A Peacock Among Pigeons,” with GMCW serving as the orchestra’s guest chorus. No explanation was given.

In a statement, the chorus says it’s “deeply disappointed” by the news. “We believe in the power of music to educate and uplift, to foster love, understanding, and community, and we regret that this opportunity has been taken away.”

The Kennedy Center has seen a raft of cancellations since President Trump took over the arts center last week and installed his loyalist Ric Grenell as its interim president and himself as chairman of the board. Trump had complained about drag shows at the complex (which accounted for a fraction of its programming), but as the Wall Street Journal reported recently, Trump told his aides he “never felt at home at the performing arts center.” Grenell has begun to fire employees at the center, the Journal reports, and it says that Trump hopes to reconfigure the Kennedy Center Honors to reflect his tastes, perhaps honoring Sylvester Stallone and Lee Greenwood.

Its people like this guy that are the problem.

He will sell his soul for career advancement. No sense of ethics whatsoever.

You are going to end up with a Govt full of just these kinds of people. All they need to do is be completely loyal to Ill Duche that is currently squatting in the WH.

Once they are embedded into the executive structure, its going to be very difficult to get them out.

I am not so sure getting them out is a problem, outside of the problem of winning the next election. Bove’s position is a traditional political appointee level, normally turned over. It is the long term damage they will do that will be harder to repair. If you are talking about the mid-level career positions, well, a new precedent has been set.
