A Reminder of where America is heading

It was only by invoking the CFPB that we got Chase Bank to get their shit together with our mortgage. They’d made mistakes on our paperwork causing a delay that was threatening to tank the deal and they were taking days to respond to me. Or, invoking the CFPB, one day, with concessions.

The ABA has released a statement saying that they believe in the rule of law.

https://www.americanbar.org/news/abanews/aba-news-archives/2025/02/aba-supports-the-rule-of-law/

https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/reversing-biden-faa-reinstates-notice-airmen-pilot-message-name-2025-02-10/

Under the Biden admin, the FAA changed a particular “Notice to Airmen” to a “Notice to Air Missions”, keeping the same acronym but just being inclusive of people other than men.

Appears they are on the men’s rights train to protect men’s feelings from being hurt.

I’m waiting on the announcement that the military base name changes during the Biden administration are being reverted.

It’ll be interesting to see how they justify the expense of making those changes again…or rather, I’ll be interested to see if “DEI is evil” is a sufficient excuse among the masses to gloss over the logical inconsistency of spending that money while trying to make massive cuts elsewhere.

Already happened - they’re changing it back. This time it “doesn’t honor Confederate general Bragg, it honors a different Bragg.”

The Naming Commission estimated that changing the name of Fort Bragg to Fort Liberty would initially cost over $6 million, according to the commission’s report. It’s not clear how much it will cost to change the name back to Fort Bragg.

Let’s just pretend they named it after Billy Bragg

There was more than Fort Bragg renamed.

I’m wondering if (for example) the Fort Rucker/Novosel name change might be reverted, or Fort Benning/Moore.

NASA employees at the space agency’s D.C. headquarters have reportedly been barred from displaying Pride symbols on their person or in their workspaces, according to a NASA Watch report. The news comes as a slew of Executive orders signed by U.S. President Donald Trump continues to force policy changes at NASA and other federal agencies, targeting diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) initiatives.

In recent weeks, NASA employees across the country received emails announcing an end to the agency’s DEIA offices as well as directives to adhere to new guidelines penned by the Trump administration. The new regulation regarding Pride symbols was only communicated verbally, according to the NASA Watch report, and threatened violators with administrative leave. In a joint statement, ranking U.S. House Space and Aeronautics Committee members Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and Valerie Foushee (D-NC) called the move “a ridiculous overstep.”

If you believe that what you are asking is right, why only do it verbally?

Do lapel pins of Sally Ride count as LGBTQ symbols?

So much this.

One of the few MAGA people I regularly interact with was first adamant this was completely made up.

When I showed him it was real, he claimed “it’s just a joke, he’s not doing anything about it”

When I showed him it was already introduced in the House and referred to two committees, he said “Well it’s just to troll the left!”

When I asked how that squared with DOGE and MAGA’s desire to cut wasteful spending, he said “Whatever, the Democrats just had 4 years of spending our money!”

I asked how it feels to advocate for wasting taxpayer money in pointless self-gratification and he never responded.

If you illegally fire lawyers, they are going to sue you. Or if you prefer, more people fighting back:

A few years from now, when he’s wandering around a wasteland with his home destroyed and family all dead, he’ll spot his left wing neighbor, who also lost his family and home. He’ll see the pained look on his neighbors face and think “Totally worth it”.

Imagine being a speechwriter during the first Trump admin, getting fired for attending a white nationalist conference, then now rehired as acting undersecretary for public diplomacy and public affairs. You thought that the guy wasn’t fit to be a speech writer, how is he qualified to be a senior State department official?

“Population control? If only!" "Higher quality humans are subsidizing the fertility of lower quality humans,” he added, calling it the “Foundational reality of social and political life in the post-war West.”

“It’s not politically correct to say, but low-IQ, low-impulse control populations lack higher reasoning and moral faculties—they require strict corporal punishment and threat of violence to function properly within a society. Instead of anarcho-tyranny, we need Singapore for the dumb and violent, and Sweden for the more elevated.”

He responded to a video of people in a neighborhood in Atlanta, saying: “When a population gets feral, a little snip snip keeps things in control. Could offer incentives (Air Jordans, etc.).”

Ok, that’s how he got the job.

I’ve had similar interactions with a non-maga Republican.

That proposal to ethnically cleanse Gaza? Just trolling. Increased debt limits? The Democrats do it, too. Shutting down NIH? That’s probably illegal, it won’t happen.

Trump is doing Moscow’s job by ripping apart the Western World[…] we wanted to saw the Western World into pieces, but Trump is doing it himself […] One piece is Canadian, one piece is European…

[The most important topic with regards to Europe] is Hegseth’s three “NOs”. NO to American weapon deliveries to Ukraine, NO to Hegseth meeting with Ukrainian delegations, and NO to escalating the war.

Trump randomly overthrew the Kennedy Center, which is basically a big fancy venue, and home to the DC orchestra and opera. He simply fired the president, and the Democrat-half of the Board and then forced the rest to elect him Chair.

I am less worried about what it means for the arts, though it can’t be good. More worried that this is “where America is headed”.
