The United States owes much of its wealth to the quantity and quality of basic research that is done here. Or was done here. Gutting the NSF will be devastating long term. As a percentage of total government spending, it is small, but the impact on science research and development, as well as development of native talent, is huge. I am perfectly willing to accept that the ATC system could use an update.
