These diseases sometimes kill strong, healthy people, but those most at risk generally have an underlying condition. If you want to try and make sense of it all, maybe we should think about what a public policy looks like tries to divide people into net producers (the strongest, smartest, and healthiest) and net consumers (the elderly, sick and, disabled). This is pure transactional based leadership where these are not individual “common sense” solutions but a systematic approach to try and rid the US of anyone and anything that does not maximize value creation. That’s what they are doing. Every decision they have made supports this. ---

Flu vaccine is estimated to save 3-8,000 American per year depending on how well they predict the right strains. Yes, let’s try to reduce that number, what a great idea. ---

Thing is, quite a lot of vaccines help children under 5 when they are young (they are healthy but their immune systems are still developing and their mother was not exposed to the same pathogen so she doesn’t have antibodies) So you are just going to end up with more children dying because they were unvaccinated. Also, if they go down that path you will very likely get clusters of unvaccinated children which will produce outbreaks. This will then cause higher mortality and morbidity. The whole thing is just so stupid. Its like the entire country is regressing back to the middle ages when science was anathema and facts made up by the person in power. ---

There’s a big Mennonite community over there. I guess the thing is, Mennonites have been around for a long time and presumably were part of the successful eradication of smallpox and, up until recent years (I guess?), polio within the borders of the US. So were they always antivax, or is this a more recent thing? ---

that’s the nature of the most communicable disease we have. it will get worse. but, at this stage, 90 cases (reported, I know) isn’t moving any needles. that curve needs to turn WAY up to wake people up. these are the people who need to see the holes in the hands themselves to shock them out of the bubble. give me some more zeros, please. ---

Eh, covid didn’t move some needles. My sister’s in-laws were anti vaxxers, and as one of them was dying of covid, another was pissed that she wasn’t allowed to hang out in the hospital waiting room because she hadn’t been vaccinated. Literally as her husband was dying of covid. ---

I wonder what it will take for people to get back on the vaccine bandwagon. I heard people say that anti-vaccine people will wake up once preventable diseases start killing people, but I don’t think so.
