There’s a major misunderstanding there, as with many players. You’re not paid because you earned it. You’re paid because you WILL earn it.
He has a decent point tho. Pretty much all proven good starters not on rookie contracts are on long term $50m+ deals (Sam Darnold is an exception, but I assume he’ll also get paid after this season).
The Bucs also have a fair point in offering 2 years $100m. I don’t think he has the upside of many other top 10-15 QBs and has shown a lack of consistency. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Is Baker really proven though? What exactly has he accomplished?
remaining upright and functional (or better) in a position where being good enough to win more than lose means…~$50m per. slot him among Dak, Love, Herbert, Watson(!), danny jones. it’s the going rate. they can choose to cut bait and find a replacement.
Yeah, but even he didn’t think he was that good when he signed his current contract.

But, no, he wants a few fistfuls of dollars more, for whatever good bad or ugly seasons he’s had in the past. I mean, deservin’s got nothin’ to do with this.
But last year he DIDN’T “win” more than “lose”. In fact, they were 6-2 at the BYE and still managed to finish with a losing record.

i agree with it. they can let it roll for this year. if he sucks, then draft capital and consideration must be given to a replacement. he is still only 31, but reversion to his mean isn’t a great reversion. so maybe they can do a deal then at a lower cost (with a grouchier person).
if he is good, and a FA, then who knows what happens. and good is “good enough in the eyes of the market”
