2026 FIFA World Cup Discussion

It is so special that you need to wait 30 minutes to even see the ticket prices:

The corruption just keeps getting worse.

My wait was 6.5 hours today but I did other things while waiting in the queue. The prices started at C$500 for cheapest NZ-Egypt seats in Vancouver. That was more than on the resale sites….

I might, however, schlep down to the fan festival at Rockefeller Center one day, depending on the weather and workload, just for the experience.

Everybody! Hold off on buying these!! The price will come down!!!

I guess they have not finalized the July 1 law changes, some of which can be enforced for the WC.

They should name the rule after the guy.

Good on the authorities.

Infantino has delusions of gandeur.

Vancouverites are not feeling warmly towards FIFA these days. Our politicians should have been smart like Montreal’s and not bid for the games.

Vancouver is flooded with tourists in the summer so there is no economic boom for businesses except hotels who can charge a higher rate. Even that is not a big windfall as Vancouver hotels have 100% occupancy in summer at pretty high rates anyway.

Infantino has been spending too much time with Trump.

I liked the Vancouver police chief’s simple explanation:

“Police motorcades are only approved for visiting heads of state. At this point, a FIFA Executive does not meet that standard”.

Infantino is eventually going to go the way of Sepp Blatter. The only question is when. It’ll probably take the threat of UEFA bailing out and forming its own governing body - and to a point, I’m kind of surprised UEFA hasn’t issued such a threat directly - but it’s likely Infantino would just be replaced by someone else who does the same shit. Ultimately nothing gets fixed without someone being truly selfless and committed to improving the sport and governance of the supervising body without regard to their personal finances and perks.

Much like most governments: good luck finding such a person.

It’s possible that there are people who have an extremely different value of their money than I do with mine, but I don’t think I’m unique in my stinginess:

I will check the day of the match for any last minute bargains.

As we discussed long ago, the hospitality package pricing for WC was ludicrous. Not surprising it didn’t work.

Good news that people are not buying high-priced tickets. Only can go down from here.

The small infant still thinking that the USA is a soccer market.

https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/48694351/mexico-liga-mx-players-world-cup-team-miss-camp-playoffs

Meanwhile, Mexico Federation is forcing Liga MX players still playing in the totally unnecessary Liga Mx second-half-of-season playoffs to National Camp, else they will not be on the WC squad. Not the European Clubs’ players, though.
Honestly, the Apertura/Clausura format is stupid enough without a tournament (knockout playoffs) at the end of each half-season. Maybe the Federation understands this But, there is also no need to start camp so early.
Summary: all of Mexico’s soccer is messed up in priorities.
