I guess it is up to UA if he wants to go through the Fantasy league scoring.
I don’t play any, so no idea where it is quick and easy to look.
It was supposedly a trick play. As other mentioned, it hit the ground so it wasn’t a rushing td, but rather a fumble recovery. Probably shouldnt count since it wasnt a rushing td. Definitely a huge gray area that doesnt happen too often. Kenyan Drake had a long lateral td at the end of a game (MIA vs Patriots) in Dec 2018.
Woody Marks’ touchdown for the Houston Texans wasn’t a traditional trick play but rather a designed play that looked like a broken snap, where the ball went through QB C.J. Stroud’s legs to Marks, who scored easily, but it was officially ruled a fumble and recovery by Marks, not a rush, causing fantasy football controversy, though players confirmed it was meant for him, a “little miscue” on an intentional snap, says MSN. The Houston Chronicle noted it looked like a bad snap, but players confirmed the design.
Neither of my leagues (including ESPN) has a category for Offensive TDs. Both of them have Passing, Rushing, Receiving TDs and then a separate section with Miscellaneous TDs where you can add points for Fumble Recovered for TD. The obvious answer is to eliminate both players ![]()
I’m fine with whatever is decided.
I think simplicity is the right solution long-term for reasons Patience and others have laid out.
The ESPN box score does not show a TD, and the leagues I am in do not show a TD. So seems there are mixed results from a fantasy perspective.
In line with my simplicity comment above, I would expect that UA? or any one of us who was gathering scores, would be able to look at the Box Score on ESPN or our fantasy app of choice and just pull stats from there.
Hopefully Waddle renders it moot, because I would hate to lose because of this on either side. I’m very glad I’m not on the chopping block in this situation.
Thanks everyone for your input. I was trying to go from memory, and clearly my memory was not correct in that this had been clearly addressed before.
This was solely an issue about the TD. The yardage has always come from the official scorer, and thus wasn’t anything that needed to be looked up; just a determination on a “non-traditionally” scored TD while on offense.
A little additional (rambly) background:
Many moons ago I used to manually run a few fantasy football games, including this one and a fantasy league, and I would gather most-to-all of the data all in one fell swoop by manually checking each box score. Therefore back in those days I was tracking a lot of stuff, and I was tying out all the scores each week, and therefore would’ve easily credited all the TDs that were scored… but it’s not impossible I was mixing up what I had done in other games/leagues as we skipped over the issue in this one… hence my call-out to y’all for a collective memory search.
Since the goal of this game has always been simplicity, I will make an official ruling, and edit the rules above for further clarification in the future, from what was:
Will henceforth be clarified with:
(Ain’t punctuation fun?)
Actually, let’s go one step further to remove all ambiguity:
I really wanted to have this resolved before tonight’s game - I didn’t want to make a call after the fact (and give the appearance I was taking sides, when I’m not), so thank y’all for your quick responses.
I will accept the ruling.
But… reading more on this play, it seems like it was a direct snap to Marks, which happened to hit the ground. I believe when they practiced it, the center successfully snapped the ball directly tp Marks. Not sure why the scorers/nfl/whatever are treating it any different than if the QB bobbles a shotgun snap and then advances the ball.
I agree - I’m curious if this one will get changed on a stat update. ![]()

Congrats to 3rookie for winning the Week 15 booster! (Had to get a new one after using up all the old ones last week, eh?)
Meanwhile, at the other end, we have Whiskey coming with the low score of 345… but wait! Whiskey has a booster, which raises the score to 345+50=395.
That now leaves MountainHawk with the low score at 393… and boosterless. Thus MountainHawk is our bootee of the week. We thank you for playing, and we hope to see you back next year.
For Week 16 we will be booting ONE player. Good luck to all the survivors! ![]()
