i am a patriots fan. i find the weird purity some try to maintain around “1st ballot” or whatever is a waste of human thinking. similar to the baseball fools who insist no one should be unanimous bc babe ruth wasn’t. some people are deserving of the award so clearly.
the KC writer shared their thinking and it seems fair - felt the senior players were on last lap and wanted to boost them more than belichick bc he will eventually get in. since they can only pick 3 of the 5 (and 3 sr players are lumped in w the 1 coach and 1 contributor/owner for some dumb reason) it’s complicated.
he will and should get in eventually. timing is dumb. the process seems flawed. it seems dumb and like a self-own for the HoF bc…his case to get in is obvious but the process and how it affected the deciders led to this bad outcome which isn’t gonna bring the positive hoopla they usually have for the announcements. (positive even amid the folks who are near misses)
His reasoning seems at least logical. I doubt the others that left him off have as well reasoned an argument. I’m sure he was abrasive douche who was arrogant to the people now voting for or against him but seriously he’s taken 9 teams to the Super Bowl and won 6. Deflategate and Spygate can only detract so much from them. He should get in next year but that might just squeeze a more deserving candidate out next year that might have gotten in.
I read this and it never says the real reasons for having bad bunny and other pop stars for the past several years: “The NFL is not as globally big as the World Cup.”
And it never will be, but they can keep trying, especially if it puts bugs up the MAGA butts.
Will be in Paris as well.
They can keep trying but it’s just too much time not seeing any action.
And, as Chuck Klosterman wrote recently, it is superior watching on TV than being there.
So, just hook up with a network to show the games (this probably has already happened. I cannot be the genius on this subject). The athletes love the extreme non-routineness
of flying nine hours to an even more dangerous city then their own.
Hey! Forget about what all that crap going on. What is IMPORTANT is FUH-BAW!!
“The Super Bowl is supposed to be an escape, right? We’re supposed to go there to not have to talk about the serious things of this country,” said Tiki Barber, a former player for the New York Giants who played in the Super Bowl in 2001 and has since attended several as a commentator. “I hope it doesn’t devolve, because if it does, then I think we’re really losing touch with what’s important in our society.”
Oh, there is this gem:
Asked to clarify ICE’s role this week, DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin refused to say whether federal immigration agents will be present for the Super Bowl.
“Those who are here legally and not breaking other laws have nothing to fear,” she said. “We will not disclose future operations or discuss personnel. Super Bowl security will entail a whole-of-government response conducted in line with the U.S. Constitution.”
Tell that to every US citizen held or transported out of the country.
I was just laughing about this when I was at the store seeing the Super Bowl displays and saw the logo for this Super Bowl - “Super Bowl LIX”. Yeah, for Bears fans.
The thing that pisses me off the most about it is that the 49ers got compensation for “developing” Martin Mayhew when the Washington Commanders hired him as GM, even though 1) he was in an advisory role to Ron Rivera, who had final say and especially 2) he had already been a GM for the Lions for 8 seasons.
I get that I’m a biased Bears fan, but there appears to be obvious precedence here (unless I’m missing something)
