I think Edmonton is on the verge of something great. Just run it back again with the same roster, Toronto-style, and especially don’t do anything about goaltending or the depth of the team.
Oh, sure, it didn’t work for Toronto, but this is different because … look, you’ll have to ask super-genius GM Stan Bowman about that. Maybe he’ll even put his hands up to his ears with and give a “I can’t hear you with all the Stanley Cup rings on my fingers” response.
2 Lightning wins away from America’s 33rd straight Stanley Cup! ![]()
I think it’s 32nd in a row, because of 2004-05.
We still kept it for that year, so IT COUNTS!
Gutsy Habs live to fight another day.
Sabres-Habs should be an exciting series but can’t be better than the Lightnings one.
Watched the last 5 minutes or so with my son, who loves the sport. Pretty exciting!
Non-Lightning fans are somewhere between “good, glad the Lightning lost because fuck Corey Perry” and “damn, I was hoping the Lightning would win and go to the Finals and lose there, because that would have been epically fucking hilarious, because fuck Corey Perry.”
I missed Colorado-Minnesota last night, but I see it must have been a lot of action between the 20s and each team’s red zone defense was ….. wait, I’m getting something from the control room - that wasn’t the Buffaloes and Gophers playing football.
Thank goodness Toronto got the 1st overall pick. Can’t think of a more deserving franchise, what with it having made the playoffs 9 years in a row with a group of highly-drafted guys - 1 a 1OA, plus a 1OA signed as a free agent - that happened to finally ship one of those guys off, was nearly in a playoff spot with ~25 games to play, shit the ice after the break because everyone had no heart, and plummeted to 5th-to-last as a result.
Also super stoked that San Jose got the 2OA, what with the Sharks having cashed in on 1OA Celebrini just 2 years back and 4OA Will Smith just 3 years back, having last year’s 2OA Michael Misa putting up a decent rookie season, and the team sitting in a playoff spot for a chunk of the season and finally falling out in the last few games.
I can’t think of anyone more deserving than that.

If you really want to insult Buffalo, serve wings with ranch instead of the culinarily correct bleu cheese
just glad my Sabres redeemed themselves to force Game 6 to be required (although they need to stop getting into that penalty box)
Toronto won’t have Craig Berube to kick around any more. Probably a good thing for Berube, because he was right about the team: it needed a heart, and Chayka is going ignore that in favor of guys with super-duper analytics.
Not sure what’s worse… ranch on wings or ketchup on a hotdog.
Both are worthy or eternal damnation.
Yeah. If you have a good hot dog (i.e. Sahlen’s or Zweigle’s) you don’t actually have to put anything on it. I happen to like mustard though, so I’ll put a bit of that. But that’s about it.
Seems more like religious… wait for it… hotdogma.
Edmonton finally does what everyone suspected, given that they were asking around about potential head coaches for next season: relieves Kris Knoblauch of his coaching duties. Just in time for him to start collecting on that new contract he signed last October.
This is why Stan Bowman is a super genius GM. I don’t know how Connor McDavid sticks around after this contract.
