2024 College Football Discussion

If there’s one thing we should all be able to agree on, it’s that Oklahoma State staring down the barrel of an 0-9 conference record needing a win at Colorado - a likely pissed off Colorado after that Kansas defeat - to avoid going winless in the Big 16 Midwest 16 Big 12, … that’s a glorious thing, especially if it results in Mike Gundy coming unhinged at a reporter when questioned about it and he gets shitcanned shortly after.

Assuming they beat Tech Friday, yes, after the Ole Miss and Alabama losses. UGA gets to play for a bye (or 1st round road game) instead of having a 1st round home game. Or they could lose to Tech this Friday then win the SEC title game and get a bye.

And somehow Alabama is still reasonably alive. Circumstances almost always work out for them.

Eh, it is confusing, but they seem to know this season’s BYU.

After Week 13:

Three Big 10 (four in the top 11)
Three SEC (three in the top 11)
One ACC (two in top 11)
One Big 12 (zero in the top 11)
One ND, now at #5.
Highest not Power 4 team/champion (BSU at #11)
Two other highest-ranked Power 4 teams, which are right now an ACC and Big10 team. Clem at #12 is getting bumped for the Big 12 champ, but they are either in the ACC Championship (and could win) or could take a second ACC spot because SMU or Miami will lose the ACC Championship.

I suppose this is the most appropriate thread for this…

Tech is handling UGA in Athens at the half. It’s been a while since anybody did this at UGA, let alone GT

Did this game ever end?

tOSU having a hard time.

Nope. Still going.

I think it ended the next day.

That game shall be known as Clean Old Fashioned Eight.

Went so long local affiliates went to a Musk rocket launch as the primary feed instead.

Something to look forward to in the next few years, when any TV time beyond regulation time must be filled with Cybertruck commercials if you want to stay in a top conference.

Generic situation: you are 1-4 vs your bitter rivals, 47-1 vs everyone else. Coach stays vs goes?

I’m annoyed by the national sports radio guy who says Michigan started it, so it’s their fault. Cmon dude. Expression of 1st amendment rights vs assault? So the guy was a d*ck for going on the O. Assault is assault. And, btw, play better and he wouldn’t even think of going on the O.

It seems that nearly every rivalry game was won by the visiting team. “Planting the flag” is just asking for it IMO, even if you think it’s “your right” to do it.

Anywho, ESPN shows standings so you figure the top two will be playing in the Conference Championships…

No.
IU in second, but PSU is playing. (Opponents’ Conference Record)
BYU in second, but ISU is playing. (ditto)
So, ESPN really sucks at knowing the tiebreaker rules.

After Week 14:
Three Big 10 (four in the top 11). Looks like all four will represent. I don’t see PSU dropping too much unless it is a blowout.
Three SEC (four in the top 11). Looks like all four will represent. If the SECCG is a blowout, then MAYBE the lower drops out of the top 11.
One ACC (one in top 11). Winner advances, and the loser drops. SMU will not keep its spot if they lose, no matter how much crying their coach (or Sweeney) does. Da-U Da-Out.
One Big 12 (zero in the top 11). Winner advances, loser already out.
One ND, now at #4. Advancing.
Highest not Power 4 team/champion (BSU at #10). Winner of Mountain West represents.

My DVR (Dish Hopper) automatically adds 1 hour to live sports recordings. I got 20 minutes of news after the game. Lucky since DTV only added 1/2 hour. So I would have missed probably part of the 7th and all of the 8th overtimes. I didn’t watch it on Friday and hadn’t seen the result but when I turned on GameDay they mentioned the 8 overtimes of the GAvGT game without giving the result, luckily. So I immediately went to the recording and watched the game. Did not end as I was really hoping.

The 2024 version of the Heidi game?

My YouTubeTV simply keeps recording live sports events until they are over. I do not know how “they” know.
Downside is that I know exactly when games will end if I figure out the “time until end.” So, an NFL Football won’t go into overtime if there are only 3 minutes left in the recording with 1 minute left in the game.

Yes, YouTubeTV has that pro and con. I guess you could tape/cover the right part of the time bar on the TV…
