I would’ve made the Syracuse comment if you hadn’t beaten me to it.
Back to the topic at hand, I didn’t do more than an initial glance at the CFP rankings and at this point may as well wait another week.

Nobody shows up v da-U
A letter to Utah Crimson Club members about tonight’s game against BYU.
tl/dr: People in the area around where the Utah team enters the stadium can’t wear anything with BYU colors or logos on it. They’ll have to cover it with a coat or with a Utah t-shirt they will be provided.
Dear Crimson Club Member,
Thank you for your support of Utah Athletics. You are essential to the incredible home atmosphere in Rice-Eccles Stadium. So we can maintain that home field advantage and inspire the team to victory as they take the field, we are making an important change in the Layton Field Club for the rivalry game this Saturday. The Layton Field Club is one of the most unique experiences in college football due to the proximity to the team as they walk from their locker room through the club space to enter the field. Therefore, to provide the team with the best possible home field experience, we will not permit access to the field club to those wearing opposing team logoed apparel. Guests wearing visiting team apparel will be required to either cover such logos (e.g. by wearing a coat) or instead wear a Utah branded shirt provided to them.
Again, we want to provide our student-athletes and coaches with the best home field atmosphere possible as they take the field before the game. Thank you for your understanding and continued support
Go Utes!
Petty.
Yeah, didn’t USC let a Penn State fan run out with the team by paying the price they set to do that?
If I were a BYU fan who had purchased tickets there, I would have my coat (because it is cold tonight) but every once in a while, like when they run out or in, take it off to stretch my weary bones.
Remember that time it was a big deal that the SEC had 4 of the top 5 in the coaches poll, and 4 of the top 6 in the AP poll? And the next week the SEC had the top-2 and 6 of the top 7 in the AP poll while still having 4 of the top 5 in the coaches poll? And they did that the week after, while then having 6 of the top 8 in the coaches poll? And that was supposed to highlight the depth of the SEC, which was superior to every other conference?
This week: the Big Ten Big Fourteen Big Eighteen B1G has 4 of the top-5 in the AP poll, 4 of the top-6 in the coaches poll. That said, Notre Dame Fan would like everyone to know that after a 52-3 thrashing of a 1-8 team, the Irish are legitimate national title contenders and a closing schedule of 5-4 Virginia [at home], 9-0 Army [at home] and 4-5 USC [on the road] will be more than enough to make ND the prohibitive title favorites.
Comments from Utah’s AD after the Utes lost 22-21 on a last second field goal by BYU.
“I’ve been an athletic director for 12 years,” Harlan said. “This game was absolutely stolen from us. We were excited about being in the Big 12, but tonight I am not. We won this game. Someone else stole it from us. Very disappointed. I will talk to the commissioner. This was not fair to our team. I’m disgusted by the professionalism of the officiating crew tonight.”
I’m guessing he isn’t going to have to schedule that call with the commissioner on Monday.
He didn’t have to wait until Monday. Big 12 commissioner Brett Yarmark publicly reprimanded him and find him $40,000.
Harlen’s response?
“Last night following our game against BYU, I made clear my feelings related to the game officiating,” Harlan said in a statement. “However, I recognize that there are more appropriate times and avenues to express those concerns, and I accept the consequences of my decision.”
He added that the university is “proud to be a member of the Big 12 Conference and we look forward to working with our peers to continue to enhance the league.”
Doesn’t sound like he acknowledged what he did was wrong and doubled down on his statement about the officiating. Probably needs to have that find doubled.
Football is more important than anything. It is known.
After Week 11:
Three Big 10 (four in the top 11)
Three SEC (five in the top 11)
One ACC (zero in top 11)
One Big 12 (one in the top 11)
One ND, now at #8 and playing Army 11/23.
Highest not Power 4 team/champion (BSU at #13)
Two other highest-ranked Power 4 teams, which are right now an SEC and Big10 team. UGA getting bumped at the mo’.
We can start talking rest-of-season, the big opponents:
Ore: no one.
tOSU: IU
UT: A&M, finally
PSU: no one
IU: tOSU
UTenn: UGA this weekend; playing for a playoff spot.
BYU: no one
ND: USMA
'bama: no one
UGA: Tenn this weekend; playing for a playoff spot.
Da-YU: no one, though you never know
BSU: no one
If UGA beats Ten and A&M beats Texas we get mass chaos with who will get in from the SEC.
Number will probably remain the same, so, I could not care less than I care at this moment nor at any moment in time.
We are in this weird territory where a team might rather not make the conference championship vs. lose the conference championship.
Weird, usually Wisconsin treats drunk driving as a state hobby until you get to the 3rd OWI and it might still be the case that it’s not a felony until the 4th OWI.
and cited for operating a vehicle while not sufficiently intoxicated.
IFTP (given that it’s Wisconsin).
I thought everyone knew this at the onset of the season.
even the local rag (LA Times) put out a long article about how USC could make third place if they win the rest of their games, not have to play in the Championship and lose a third (fourth?) game, etc., and backdoor their way in. That was Week 4, I think.
Hack Plaschke. I thought it was someone more analytical:
Here’s a beauty paragraph:
This new Trojan era needs smashmouth victories. The new Trojan culture requires comeback credibility. These new Trojans need a quarterback who can take advantage of a reborn defense and manage their embattled coach’s game plan well enough to give them a chance in the 12-team playoff.
And, believe it, this 3-1 team is good enough to qualify for the playoffs. The Trojans should probably be able to get there with two losses. Penn State in two weeks seems to be the only powerhouse standing in their way, and Moss is a perfect fit for this journey.
Oh, that QB has been benched.
Rese Davis made a comment about what he is hoping for at the end of the season that I’m really hoping happens.
He is hoping for an 8 way tie for first place in the SEC with the top 8 teams all 6-2 in conference play. The only really possible thing stopping this from being a reality would be both Texas and Texas A&M not losing until the face each other in the final week of the season.
Weird quirk in the schedule, caused by the teams up to this point, that UGA-Tenn and UT-A&M are the only games left of top-8 teams. Many SEC teams have a bye-game scheduled late in the season.
Yeah, in years past I’ve noticed that Bama and Auburn have had FCS or very low rated FBS teams the week before their matchup. This year Bama has that game a week earlier with Oklahoma the week before Auburn, which this year is kinda the same.
This week it is AL vs Mercer, Auburn v Louisiana-Monroe, KY v Murry St and A&M v NM St.
Next week it is GA v UMass, TN v UTEP, USC v Wofford, and Ark v Louisiana Tech.
