The Canucks should be a better team this year but their opponents will be up for them more this after after their surprise division win last year. They will make the playoffs but probably finish behind the Oilers in the Pacific Division.
Guesses for division winners: NYR, BOS, COL, EDM
I think the Cup is wide open right now and it will take all season to sort out the real contenders, and I think a couple teams in the starting contenders list will drop (way) out.

St. Louis plays about 10 minutes of hockey and wins over Seattle 3-2.In other words, the Blues are going to try the get outplayed most nights, have goaltending save our ass, be opportunistic approach again and see if it goes better than it did last year - or, if they can replicate the success under Bannister for a full year.
It could easily be that we didn’t get to see the Cup pregame festivities for Florida, but the little bit [fuck you] ESPN showed was: Barkov skates out with the Cup, puts it right on a table, Florida lifts the banner. It wasn’t the massive pregame celebration that Vegas had last year, and it definitely wasn’t Colorado the year prior WHEN THEY PLAYED ALL THEIR HIGHLIGHTS AND TALKED ABOUT HOW GREAT IT WAS TO WIN THE CUP, AND THEY YELLED EVEN LOUDER THAN THIS FOR AT LEAST 45 MINUTES.
And then … that Florida crowd was quiet for a while. Like, funeral wake kind of quiet for a while.

So, it took LeBron complaining about a one-game road trip to determine what is going on at Staples (RIP):
The team scheduled the games on the road because of planned renovations to Crypto.com Arena. The building is completing the third phase of its major renovation program since undergoing a rebrand from Staples Center to Crypto.com Arena in 2021.
The NHL’s Los Angeles Kings also will be displaced from their home ice until Oct. 24, when they open the regular season against the San Jose Sharks.
People seem very bullish on the devils. Coaching change? Goalie change? They were terrible last year, but I know Hughes was injured. EA sports simulation has the rangers winning the cup.
Yeah, I think coaching change, Hughes, Hamilton, and Meier all getting healthy. Addressed the goalie and toughness situation, and most of the lineup is on the younger side in which another year of experience is a boost rather than hurts them. They had like 110 points 2 seasons ago when they got decent goaltending.

True. But the Rangers will be formidable especially with Lafreniere and Trocheck playing well.
Laf is really coming into his own. Gonna be a beast. Too bad Kakko didnt ever develop, but they have some younger players that can fill in and even lead the team if Panarin, Kreider, or Zibenijad take a step back.

The Leafs 1968 1969 1970 … 2023 2024 2025 Cup Run started off with a 48-shot, 1-0 loss to Montreal and their noted Vezina Trophy goalie Sam Montembeault. Maybe don’t practice playing playoff hockey right now, just focus on regular season hockey because that seems to go better for scoring goals, but it was a pretty solid performance otherwise.
On the other hand, Edmonton can’t take anything positive away from a 6-0 home opener beating by Winnipeg other than “it’s over” and “that won’t happen 81 more times this season, right?” Of course, they also got blown out in last year’s season opener and they recovered from that [after a head coaching change], so maybe it’s going to be nothing [after yet another head coaching change].
Also good to see Alexis Lafrenniere picked up where he left off in the postseason. Not so good if you’re a Penguins fan, because they picked up right where they left off last regular season.

In Jackets news… Team Captain Boone Jenner has undergone shoulder surgery and is out for most of the season. Can this group of plucky young kids with out a captain or star player make a show of playing hockey? Sigh. We’ll see!
