They’ve been doing that his whole career. And he’s really good at getting open and scoring.
A two-goal loss = one-goal loss. Sorry to have to make it that simple. Pre-school math, to be honest.
Ovechkin did set a record tonight. The second goal ended up being his 136th game-winning goal, breaking the tie with Jaromir Jagr for most all-time.
Ovechkin’s career power play goals [324] pulls into a tie for 197th all-time. He also had his 565th all-time even-strength goal, moving 1 back of Gordie Howe for 2nd all-time.
Next: 4/2 - at NY Islanders: career 71 GP, 44 goals
After: 4/10 - vs. Carolina: career 92 GP, 52 goals
Ovechkin almost got the record with under a minute left too. Ripped one heading to the top corner but Knight just got his shoulder on it to keep it out.
Big day for WC2 in the east. Rangers @ Devils and then Flyers @ Canadiens. Devils would want nothing more than to ruin the Rangers momentum and cement their own playoff spot. Habs play the floundering Flyers, giving them a chance to get some distance over the Rangers. But its hockey, so i kinda expect wins for NYR and Flyers today.
Flames need a win badly vs Vegas tonight
Habs were the Canadian team that I thought was the least likely to make the playoffs this year. Rooting for them now.
I think I’ve said it here before: there are certain leagues that are just better when certain teams are better.
The NHL and the Montreal Canadiens are one such pairing, and the Candiens are way overdue to be really good.
They were very good at Carey Price’s prime. Thats the only point in my NHL fandom that theyve been a top team.
But maybe this is the start of something wonderful. Hughes seems to have put together something thats working.
Rangers lose. Habs win. Habs up 4 points with 6 to play. Have an easier schedule the rest of the way too.
I saw a stat during the Rangers game that theyve given up more short handed goals than theyve score on the power play since March 3rd. They are under 5% pp efficinecy during that time. 3 short handed goals against in the last 4 games alone.
I bet things would turn around for them if they’d ever decide to spell Canadians correctly
895
Nice little ceremony they held.
As an aside, why didn’t the Islanders have someone keep an eye on him? PP + OVI at the faceoff circle = goal
Did not waste any time. Gretzky’s assist record probably safe though.
There’s “that record is never getting broken” but there’s a chance someone could get there, and then there’s “that record is never getting broken.” That career assists mark may fall in the latter, because … you have to have the ability to put up 100 assists, then you have to have guys around who can score a ton of goals to give you a shot at 100 assists. Then, you have to have that year after year.
Kucherov and McDavid had exactly 100 assists last season; they were the 4th and 5th players to ever have a single 100-assist season. Gretzky had 11 seasons with more assists than that; no one else has ever had more than 1.
92 goals
163 assists
The annual records are probably safe for a very long time.
Missed it. Didnt realize it was an afternoon game.
That was fast! No dragging it out
Holy shit that guy is grey-headed!
I don’t think I’m that grey-headed. My job is not as stressful, though, and I don’t have a dictator threatening my family… yet.
I guess those analytics just never work.
VAN over DAL after down 3 with a minute left.
Too late in the season but the Canucks can savour this historic comeback while they are golfing in May.
I am not a Habs fan as Leafs’ fans can’t be. However I always like to see the Habs make the playoffs.
Habs magic number is 3. They are basically in. For how close the East was this year the playoff teams wont even be decided in the final week.
Flames tough loss last night. Its going to take a lot for them to get in but its still possible. They have a big game vs Minnesota coming up.
Minnesota has a back to back on the road against Flames and Canucks tonight and tomorrow. If they lose both, Flames are in a good position. Canucks could spoil the season for either Flames or Wild.
